Ella is a foster child. On her 14th birthday, she comes home with her new friends Dana and Lidiya to find the house thrashed and her guardian gone. A half-burned note and a treasure map lead the friends to an island, where they truly discover themselves.

Chapter 6
"What do we do now?" Ella asked, checking out their new looks.
"I don't know," Dana said, bit her lip, and cried out in pain. She put her hand up and it came away red. After a second of silence she opened her mouth. "Do I have fangs?" she asked.
"Um..." Lidiya said.
"Answer the question, Claire!"
"Yes."
"OH! MY! GOD!" Dana said.
"Calm down!"
"I have fangs!"
"They aren't really noticeable, they're really just tiny cute little... fangs." Dana sat down and started crying.
"Why did I eat the grass?" she sobbed.
"Ah!" Ella said.
"What?" Lidiya asked.
"I have feathers on my legs too!" Ella laughed hysterically. "And since we aren't walking into the city like this, let's discuss what to do next."
