Ella is a foster child. On her 14th birthday, she comes home with her new friends Dana and Lidiya to find the house thrashed and her guardian gone. A half-burned note and a treasure map lead the friends to an island, where they truly discover themselves.

Here we are.
Chapter 4
"Well, here we are," Ella said, looking at the forest in front of her.
"Judging by the map, this lake is somewhere in the center," Lidiya said. The three girls silently entered. After around 20 minutes of wandering they found the lake. Right where it was supposed to be. And it was infested with sharks.
"Should we try that boat?" Dana asked, pointing to the sturdy looking boat by the docks. She reached for it, but it floated away. When she lowered her hand, it returned to the docks. "That's... weird."
Ella reached. she was able to grab it. "Climb aboard?" she said. The sharks didn't seem to care. Lidiya and Dana boarded, and they rowed across. The sharks were surprisingly docile, and closer observation showed that they were an odd dark turquoise color and had less sharp teeth. As the boat nudged the island, the girls were breath taken by what they saw.
"Wow," Ella whispered.
