Ella is a foster child. On her 14th birthday, she comes home with her new friends Dana and Lidiya to find the house thrashed and her guardian gone. A half-burned note and a treasure map lead the friends to an island, where they truly discover themselves.

Chapter 3
"So he knew this was coming?" Dana asked.
"Why else would he have a box with computer passwords and a permission slip for me to be on a plane by myself?" Ella responded.
"So, this map looks like it's somewhere in Scotland, in a little known forest. But the strange thing is that there is no island in the forest, but the map has a giant arrow pointing towards an island," Lidiya said, her eyes glued to her laptop.
"I bet I can convince Mom and Dad to let me go. If I say that t's going to be an educational experience and all that crap," Dana said. "How long should we plan to stay there?"
"You don't have to come," Ella said. "I can go by myself."
"Annnnnd that's why we're coming," Lidiya said. "Stop acting the storybook hero and help me come up with a packing list."
Ella went over, silently thanking all celestial beings for landing her with the world's best friends.
