Chapter Thirty-Three: Lindspire

Chapter 33

“Orange stone?”

“Check.”
“Blue stone?”

“Check.”

“Green stone?”
“Check.”

“Purple stone?”

“Chhhheck.”

“Red stone.”

“And rainbow stone?”
“Yes, god, we have them all.” Anne was obviously tired of saying check, but I was just making sure we had all the stones. Except the the yellow. We can’t twist the thoughts of ogres or Madras.

“Okay, we’re ready to go.” I said. Persephone nodded.

“Good luck!” Persephone smiled.
“Tell Lucifer I say helloo!” Oliver said.
“Ugh.” Unther rolled his eyes.

“Okay, let’s go, see you later!” Anne waved as she slipped on the blue stone. “I’ll, uh, tell Lucifer hello.” I put on my blue ring and floated down after Anne.
“Okay, so, are we going to take away Madras’s magic first, or put the ogres in a magical, mystical, wondrous world?” Anne asked.

“First, I don’t think their world will be that great. Second . . . I dunno.” I answered. We thought in silence as we floated to the mountain. We weren’t sure if Madras and the ogres would still be there, but we might as well check. When we reached Ogre Mountain, or the remains of it, it was empty and silent.

“Soooo I take it they’re not here?” Anne sighed.

“Yeah, but where else would they be?” I wondered. “Do they have another hideout?”

“Yeah, ask me, the ogre expert.” Anne answered. I rolled my eyes and smiled.

“Would they be at the village?”
“I think we would see them from here. And here them. And smell them. Have you smelled those ogres?” Anne wrinkled her nose.
“I guess it’s a good thing they’ll have their own island.” I smiled.

“Stink Island. Stink-A-Lot. Stinkville.” Anne said.
“What?”
“I’m coming up with names for their island.” Anne shrugged.
“Oh, yeah, I’m sure the ogres will want their island to be called Stinkville.” I laughed.
“Speaking of stinky ogres, where are the stinky ogres?”

“Let’s fly around above the trees and see if we can find them.” I suggested. We flew high above the trees, and some of the trees were pretty tall. I could actually see over the cliff. In the distance over the cliff, there was something very shiny. It would have to be pretty shiny to be seen from this far away.

“Anne, what do you think that is?” I asked.
“What?” Anne flew next to me. “Woahhhh, is that like . . . I don’t even know. Let’s go see!”

“But‒okay.” I thought finding the ogres before they found the kind and queen (and Unther, I guess) was more important, but I had to know what this shiny thing was. We flew for a while until we were close to the shiny thing, still gleaming in the sunlight. We decided to walk a little, in case it was dangerous and saw us in the sky. (That was Anne’s idea)

As we walked closer, I saw it was not a weapon, but a gleaming gold tower, like the ones in castles. The roof was gold and the rest was ivory white. I looked at the bottom of it, to see if was broken and chipped. The only thing wrong with the whole thing was that it was laying on its side, next to the destruction of several other parts of a castle.

We were pretty far from the edge of the cliff, I looked in the distance, and only saw tall grass swaying in the wind. I could not see a cliff edge.
“Anne, what is this?”
“Some kind of destroyed castle‒” Anne stopped. “Kate.” She said in a deadly calm voice. “Do you think this is‒?” She didn’t need to finish. I was thinking it from the moment I saw the tower. Was it our old home, Lindspire, where we had lived in peace until the ogres atatcked?
