Make a Potion! (potion recipe)
Chapter 9
Felix Felicis
Felix Felicis is a potion which makes the drinker lucky. This potion needs to be taken sparingly, as it can cause recklessness, dangerous overconfidence, and giddiness. It is a banned substance in organized competitions such as quidditch. Being one of the hardest potions to make, it takes six months to brew. Felix Felicis was made in the 16th century by Zygmut Budge.
Ingredients
- Ashwinder Egg
- Horseradish
- Squill Bulb
- Murtlap
- Thyme
- Occamy Eggshell
- Common Rue
The Recipe
1. Add Ashwinder egg to a cauldron, then add horseradish and heat.
2. Juice a squill bulb, add to the cauldron and stir vigorously.
3. Chop up anemone-like growth on the back of Murtlap, add to the mixture and heat.
4. Add a dash of tincture of thyme and stir slowly.
5. Grind up Occamy eggshell and add to mixture.
6. Stir slowly then heat the cauldron
7. Add a sprinkle of powdered common rue.
8. Stir vigorously then heat the cauldron one last time.
9. Wave wand over potion in a figure of eight and say incantation ‘Felixempra!’
Effects
Felix Felicis causes someone who drinks it to have luck for a limited time period.
This can allow the person to have a sense of overconfidence. When a person drinks this, they can have a high adaptability to any sudden changes.
When the potion wears off, the user’s confidence lowers and bad circumstances can happen if they are not vigilant.
Limitations
“ Luck is not powerful enough to get through a powerful incantation. “
Known Uses
- Tertius - 16th century - Got gold, a job, and found a wizarding family

-Harry Potter - April 21, 1997 - Used potion to get a memory from Professor Slughorn
-Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Hermione Granger - June 30, 1997 - Help Escape Death eater’s curses
Etymology
Felix is a latin word meaning luck or happy. ‘Felicis’ is from the same root, but declined genitive case and is translated ‘ of luck’. This means that Felix Felicis means ‘ Luck of Luck’, ‘ Lucky Luck’, or ‘Luck’s Luck’.
Conclusion
Felix Felicis is a potion of luck that can be harmful. It should be used with care and not illegally.
