A Trip To The Beach
Chapter 3
I walked down quickly to the breakfast room where there was one long table with over 30 kids on it and they all looked at me as I entered made a V line for Tom who was the only one acting normal.
"Hey"I said as I arrived next to him and he moved over making the other kids move even further away from him.
"I saved you a seat I knew you would come down sometime."Tom said taking another mouthful of slop.I picked up my spoon and stirred the slop wrinkling my nose up in disgust.
"I hope at Hogwarts they do better food than this"I said as Tom smirked at me.
"Its not that bad today"Tom replied and laughed at my expression.I took one last glance at a smirking Tom before putting a spoonful of slop, swallowing and then coughing as Tom patted my back.
"Ew, Tom how can you eat this"I said picking the slop up with my spoon and letting it drip back in.
"Act like its chocolate"He said and I took a deep breath grabbing another spoonful and trying to pretend it was chocolate and that was how I managed to finish the bowl of slop which tasted like a mixture of garbage and old socks.
"I still cant believe I finished that bowl of slop"I said to Tom as I put my red coat on over my white dress.I was in my room getting ready for a trip to the seaside as Tom sat on my bed playing with the dice dressed and ready to go.
"Alright does this look ok?"I asked turning away from the small mirror back to Tom who looked me up and down before smiling and nodding.
"Good I don't need a reason for those stupid girls to call me a freak"I said and Tom put the dice back on my shelf as we followed the stream of kids walking out of the hallways, down the stone staircase and out into the pebble courtyard which was enclosed by big black metal spiked fencing.
"Boys are to go on the line on the right and girls on the left"Mrs Cole instructed as helping teachers pulled down the fold up steps from the transport buses.I froze as I saw the group of girls that I had dreaded about all night,Lily Partridge and her gang,Tom seemed to have realized because he took my hand and squeezed it.
"Let me know if they do anything"He said as he let go of my hand and went into the boys line as I walked over to the girls line trying to hide behind my brunette waves.Lily looked up straight at me but then looked over to Tom who was glaring at her so she looked back to her friends and paid me no attention what so ever to me which I was glad for as we all got onto the buses and I picked a seat in the middle of the bus by the single glazed window.
I watched as the tightly packed London buildings went out of sight as we got closer to the beach, eventually we pulled to a stop right next to the pebble beach and everyone got off leaving me alone as the boys waited patiently.I managed to find Tom with some boys crowded round him and I slowed to a stop to figure out what they were doing which was making fun of him and just as I was about to stand up for him they ran away from him screaming,Tom turned to me as I walked beside him making our way down the pebble beach as the waves crashed against the shore.
"Do you think we will ever get out of the orphanage?"I asked Tom as we sat down on some rocks by a dark cave looking at Mrs Cole happily talking to the teachers.
"I will make sure we will even if I get the chance to get out I wont leave without you Clara I promise"Tom said and I smiled.
"Thank you Tom"I replied just as two little orphans named Dennis and Amy walked over to us.
"We are going to explore the cave wanna come?"Amy said walking into the cave.
"I don't see why not"I replied as me and Tom followed them into the cave and the darkness swallowed us up.
"I cant see a thing"I said to Tom who I thought was right behind me but slowly realized that none was in front or behind me.
"Oh great"I said to myself just as a high pitch scream echoed throughout the cave and I felt cold air against my skin as someone who I guessed was Amy ran out screaming followed by Dennis.
"Tom?"I said walking slowly in afraid to trip up on anything it was then that I heard hissing coming from deeper inside the cave so I followed the noise blindly walking deeper into the darkness being careful not to trip up on anything. The hissing came again but this time it was right next to me and I froze holding my breath.
"Don't move she is only trying to find out who you are"A familiar voice said that I recognized as Toms.
"How do you know the snake is a she!"I said in a ferocious whisper.
"She said"Tom replied as if it was normal to understand snakes.
"Has she found out who I am yet I am scaredTom I don't like this"I said not moving a limb.
"Don't be, she wont harm you,you are not a threat to her"Tom replied in the darkness.I let out the breath which I had been holding and sighed in relief.
"Thank god"I said as I felt a warm hand grip onto mine.
"Don't go anywhere will you"Tom said but he sounded different.
"What do you mean?"I replied.
"I don't like being lonely all the time"Tom replied and we heard the faint voice of Mrs Cole just outside the cave.
"Come on we better go"I said and felt Tom let go of my hand as we made our way back towards the entrance.
"There you two are!"Mrs Cole said sounding happy and relieved but her forced face expression said otherwise.I was left wondering as I looked to Tom as we walked side by side back to the buses was being able to speak to snakes normal for someone like us?
