Chapter 2
At camp, we were quickly separated. She was left with our newest cabin, unclaimed. It was a week before I saw her again, and to be honest, I didn't recognize her.
I was sitting on the Apollo cabin porch, watching the sunset when she approached me.
She wore sweatpants, a camp shirt, and the same old earbuds as always, but that wasn't too strange. What was different was her whole countenance. Her driftwood brown hair was pinned back from her face, and her seafoam eyes were warm, "Hi." She greeted her voice no longer a squeak.
"I see you're starting to fit in," I said, acknowledging the shirt.
She grinned wide, "I love it here. It's like... like I've been waiting my whole life to be here. Like I finally get to be me. Like I'm home."
He nodded, "I remember that feeling. It gets old after a while."
She scoffed, "As if."
"Have you been claimed yet?" I asked, making room for her to sit next to me."
"Nah, but there's a whole betting pool in the Hermes cabin about my parent."
"Is it your mother or father?"
She shrugged, "I'm adopted by my current parents so... I don't know."
Oh, I stared at the sun, "My bet's Aphrodite." I said, without even thinking.
She laughed, a bell-like laugh. "The stalls think Apollo, like you, because of my taste for music." She said, tapping her earbud.
I didn't respond, but I was honestly really hoping she wasn't my sister.
A horn sounded, and we both stood up, "Campfire tonight." I grinned, "You'll love it."
At the fire, we roasted marshmallows and talked. I introduced Eriana to my sister Chell, and my brother, Will. They got along great.
Then camp songs started. Eriana didn't know any of the words at first, but as she started to catch on, she started to sing. I swear, the more confidant she got, the more beautiful she became. Slowly, everyone else stopped singing as she carried the song on alone. Her eyes were shut, and she was swaying back and forth as she said the words. As the song fadded out, she realized that she was singing alone, and abruptly stopped. It was too late though, hovering just above her head was a bright blue trident. It turns out, being related to sirens has its perks.
