About My Past
Chapter 20
"..nothing.." Kadin said avoiding the question.
I thought back to this morning when he was keeping secrets then too. Was it just me or did they seem more distant. He sighed after seeing the look on my face.
"Liv I really want to tell you but it's the secret from this morning." he said stopping and holding my hand.
"It's fine Kadin." I said even though it did hurt.
"No Liv it's not fine because I've known you long enough to know you may say one thing but your the opposite. I care about you Liv and if your hurting you can tell me." he said and I felt bad for making him worry about me.
I pulled him into the hotel and into our room. I wanted to talk to him privately without people hearing even a word. When I locked the door so no one would come in the room I sat down on my bed and motioned for him to sit next to me. He sat down by me and looked into my eyes. I sighed and held his hand in mine.
"Kadin I need to tell you something about my past." I said looking into his dark brown eyes.
When I was 7 years old my parents were fighting as usual and I was curled up in my room to avoid them. They shouted and shouted until I heard the door slam and someone's footsteps coming upstairs to my room. My mother yanked at my arm and dragged me down the stairs. She opened the door and threw me outside. I scraped my elbows and knees pretty bad. She then went back inside and I heard the door lock. She has done things like this before and I was used to it.
I started to walk around the town as it started to rain. I got soaked but I didn't even try to get under shelter as it started to rain harder. My town wasn't the best to grow up in. It was usual to hear yells and screams from all of the houses in my town. I kept walking thinking about why my town was like this. I was just going walk to the "park" and sit there wich was just an empty lot with old cars that were broken down and rusted. I sat in my favorite run down car and watched the rain bounce of the hood of the car and the sound of the rain hitting the roof soothed me for some reason.
I hadn't noticed that someone else was in the car as well and when I heard someone moving around I looked back to see a little boy sleeping on the back seat. He was sound asleep and probably wasn't aware that I was there.
"hello?" I whispered to the little boy.
He bolted up covering his face with his arms. I then noticed large bruises and cuts on his arm like the ones I had on me.
"i'm not going to hurt you" I said softly.
He peeked at me after moving his arms a bit. He moved his arms all the ways down and curled up.
"i'm Olivia" I said and he looked at me again.
"......christopher.." he said.
Turns out Christopher was only 5 years old. He had ran away from home because his parents recently got murdered. I felt horrible when he finally was able to tell me why he was living in the old car. He has been living in the car for about one month before I found him. I took him as much food every week that I could. I was barely able to eat food at home so it wasn't very much when I brought it to him. He was very thankful no matter how little I brought him. He was so skinny that he looked like a twig.
Now looking back, I think that he was my first friend. I just didn't realize it since I had no idea what a friend was, but we would always talk and I would try to spend as much time as I could with him.
One day I went to the "park" and opened the door to the old red car.
"Hey Chris?" I said not seeing him.
I started to panic. He was always there and he never went anywhere else so where is he? I walked home sulking the whole way. My parents were fighting again like usual. I went to my room. The next day I went back and the day after that and the day after that. I couldn't find him.
On the ninth day I went to see if he was there I passed the store that had the T.V. news always on. I heard something that made me freeze.
