Telling Harry
Chapter 1
Harry woke up bright early that August summer day. He was more excited than it is allowed at that hour. But there was a really good reason to be: Ron and Hermione were arriving from their 2 and an half weeks honeymoon in Australia. After all these years, it was still weird for them to be apart for so long. For the last 12 years they have been inseparable, especially during the war and even more after it.
The black-haired man turned to his side to give his wife a kiss good morning only to find out she wasn’t there. He heard the flush on the bathroom and waited to Ginny to come back to bed. Moments later, there she was, with a fading smile to him, but for Harry she was glowing even more than usual.
“Good morning, love” Harry said as she had climbed into bed. Ginny grinned and kiss him softly on the lips.
“Good morning yourself”
“Everything ok?”
“Yes, sure!” Ginny suddenly opened a ear to ear smile and kissed him again. “Are you excited for Ron and Hermione getting back?”
“Oh, yes! I’m missing them so much! They are my best friends, and the ministry is just a bore without them!”
Ginny laughed as how things haven’t change a bit for the Golden Trio and she felt happy about that. Normally as adulthood comes, the friendships end up fading away but her husband’s and her friends haven’t. She and Luna see each regularly and as for Hermione, well, the two couples seem to live together as they spent so much time with each other. Ron and Harry at the office, the trio at lunch, Ginny and Hermione at shopping, Ron and Ginny playing Quidditch at the Burrow, Harry and Hermione with their interest in muggle cinema and the foursome at dinner every other night. It is safe to say they never got parted.
The young couple got up and dressed and came down to the kitchen to find breakfast already made by their house-elf Flory, the daughter of Kreacher who had passed away a couple of years before, just after they got engaged. They lived at 12, Grimmauld Place. After the war, Harry had the place redone and they thought that for the time being, it was good enough for them. It was a bit big, but there was a room for little Teddy who likes to spend quite a good time there, Ron and Hermione have their own room as well and Harry and Ginny have there own studies (not that Ginny uses all that much hers).
Harry and Ron were working at the Auror Office at the Ministry of Magic, Hermione was at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and Ginny was happily playing as chaser for the Holyhead Harpies. Harry and Ginny couldn’t be better: they were happily married for over a year and stable at their jobs, earning quite good gold and more than enough so they could have a very nice financial stability.
“So, we’ll be probably spending the day at the Burrow, aren’t we?” Ginny asks.
“Yeah, I guess. I mean I don’t think Ron and Hermione will have this urge of going home, are they? They have been together for 2 and an half weeks doing nothing more than, well, you know…”
“Shagging?”
Harry shivered and Ginny giggled for her husband’s reaction.
“Stop it, Gin! It’s just that it’s weird to think of that! They are my best friends! Hermione is like my sister! I don’t know how you are being so cool, it is your brother after all”
“Well, it’s not like I stop to picture it, honey, but it is funnier to see your reaction to the thought than it is weird to think about it!”
“Aren’t you a teaser?” Harry started to tinkle Ginny and they ended up laughing the whole way throughout the meal. After they were done, they got their jackets and went through the floo and left to the Burrow.
The young couple seemed to be the last ones to get there. George and Angelina, Bill and Fleur with little Victoire and baby Dominique, Charlie and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were already talking in the living room when they arrived.
“Oh, there you are!” Mrs. Weasley greeted them with hugs and kissed as her youngest daughter and son-in-law came through the door. As all the greeting were finishing being held, two soft pops were heard on the garden. Everyone hurried to the garden where you could see two very smiling young people. Harry was the first to grab the redhead young man and the bushy haired young woman to a big group hug!
“Oh, I missed you guys so much”
“Yeah, we missed you too, mate” Ron answered while patting on his friend back. Hermione got loose of the hug and greeted Ginny and the rest of the Weasley’s plus Angelina. As everyone was heading back to the house to chat in the living room while Mrs. Weasley started on lunch, Ginny caught Hermione’s arm and flicked her head to the orchard meaning she wanted to talk with her. They were hardly noticed as Ron had already started telling all about their honeymoon. Maybe not everything, Hermione thought while she internally giggled, happy to be married to the love of her life. When the girls were far enough to not be overheard, Ginny stopped and stared at her best friend.
“What’s going on, Ginny?” as Ginny’s glare changed to fear and happiness together Hermione repeated “Gin, tell me already!”
“I’m pregnant.”
“OH MY GOD!!!”
“SSSSHHHHH”
“Oh my god!” Hermione repeated on a low tone. “That’s great… isn’t it?”
Ginny paused for a while before answering “Yes, it is. I’m so happy, but I’m bloody scared! I mean, a baby? That’s freaking scary, Hermione! I know Harry and I have been talking about it for a while now but it just seemed so in the future.”
“But, Ginny, at least you have some experience, I mean you are Teddy’s godmother now, and you and Harry have been taking care of him since he was a baby! And by the way, have you told Harry?”
“Yeah, but it’s not like we had him 24/7, it was still all on Andromeda’s back! And no, I haven’t. I’m too scared.” Ginny completed.
“Well,” Hermione took her friends hand and said “you should, because I just know Harry will be thrilled! He loves you so much Ginny. Tell him tonight! Unless… is there something else? Maybe your job?”
Ginny frowned. She finally understood what was happening, why she was like that and for a moment she felt disgusted with herself. There she was, pregnant of her husband’s child, what should be the happiest moment of any woman’s life and she was worried about retiring from Quidditch!
“Merlin! I can’t believe I could be this selfish! I should be happier than ever and I’m worrying about my job!” Hermione hugged Ginny as she started to sob. As fast as the sob came, it faded and when they parted from the hug, all Hermione could see was a glowing and smiling Ginny.
“OH MY GOD! Hermione, I’m going to be a Mum!”
They both hugged again and cried out in happiness.
When both had recovered from such good news, they went back to the living room, where Ginny sat on Harry’s lap and kissed him passionately.
“Oh oh, I thought we were the ones to just get back from the honeymoon” Ron teased as he got uncomfortable with his sister kissing his best friend. After all these years, he just couldn’t be comfortable. For all Ron cared, Ginny was still a virgin! If Ron only knew!
Everybody laughed but were interrupted by Mrs. Weasley calling them out to lunch. The afternoon was spent hanging out and just catching up with what was going on. Harry updated Ron on the Auror business and Hermione on the new muggle movies they had to watch. Ginny told Hermione about Luna, who she ended up meeting more than usual since Hermione was away. Just before dinner, which was going to be held at the Burrow due to Mrs. Weasley nagging, being impossible for any of the couples to say no, Ginny called out Harry to the garden so they could have a word.
They walked out hand in hand to their spot near the lake where they spent their first summer together just after the war. The same spot where Harry had proposed to her a couple of years before. It was warm but a perfect summer night. When they stopped, Harry took the time to look down at his beautiful wife and just thank for how lucky he was for having such a wonderful soulmate. A moment later he realized she was looking down as if searching for words to say something that was on her mind.
“Gin, honey, what is it?” Harry asked.
“This is the very place you proposed to me a couple of years ago.”
Harry looked around as he realized that she was right.
“Yes, it is. I could never forget that night. You made me the happiest man alive when you said yes.”
“Well, “ Ginny stopped to think of a perfect way to break such news to her husband. “I guess, and I’m just guessing over here ok?" Harry nodded and she continued "I guess, I can top that night!”
“How come?”
“Harry… I’m pregnant!”
