Galpolott's Third Law

Chapter 1
This is a basic law in Potion making and you will probably understand that when you live, and spend 95% of your time around the Hogwarts Potion Master then Golpalott’s Third Law ends up being something that you hear about from a very early age and not just something that you learn when you come to doing “Advanced Potion Making”. So, what is it? Well, it is the law for making antidotes.

This means that someone has made a poison (i.e., any substance, that is ingested, breathed in or absorbed through the skin). Creating an antidote can be a very tricky business and it is difficult, sometimes impossible to get it right as creating an antidote to every different poison is ridiculously tedious. The basic notion of Golpalott’s third law is that: “it all takes time it is all difficult and nothing is ever easy.” Simply put a true antidote to a blended poison is more than the sum of its parts. But you still have to know what the person has been poisoned with and unfortunately finding that out could take longer than the time it takes the poison to kill them or do irreparable damage.

My personal favourite has always been: “if in doubt use a bezoar” It is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and my uncle always said to use it as it saves you from most poisons. And it is something I have carried around with me my whole life and always told my children to have with them at all times. You never know when something like that might come in useful. I know it sounds disgusting but is much better than dying of poison. Remember if you do think of using a bezoar it will not work on Basilisk Venom as it is thought to be too powerful.
