A Disaster & Some Explaining

Chapter 6
Adelaide turned slowly around to see a leering face. It was a man, hunched and dirty with a grubby coat and a cat with red eyes purring at his feet.
"Come this way! Now!" he said angrily - almost shouting.

Adelaide tried to protest. "No - I'm not a student - please -"
"Don't try to lie to me!" growled the man. He took Adelaide by her elbow and pulled her down the corridor roughly.
"Please- you don't understand - I'm not a student!" said Adelaide desperately.
"If you say that one more time, you liar, or you'll get a smacking all right - a hard one!" said the man.

Adelaide knew she couldn't protest again - it wouldn't help. This man seemed determined to get her into trouble and say she was a liar when she wasn't.
The man led her up some stairs, and then towards a gargoyle. "Chocolate frogs," mumbled the man and the gargoyle swung aside, to Adelaide's amazement.

They went up some spiralling stairs and then came to a door. The man knocked loudly on it.
Footsteps, then the door opened. In front of Adelaide and the grumpy man, was a tall, curt-looking lady, with spectacles.
"Filch - what is it?" she asked tentatively.

"This student, Mcgongall -"
"I'm not a -" Adelaide started, but the man, who was Filch, shouted angrily, "SHUT UP!"
"Now, now Filch, be quiet. You will wake up the students," said the woman sternly, who's name was McGonagall (probably her last name, thought Adelaide).

Filch glared at her, showing yellow teeth.
The woman turned to Adelaide, and said, "Why were you out of bed?"
"I wanted to explore the castle," replied Adelaide truthfully.
"What! Explore the castle! You're a student - you must have explored the first time you came here!"
"I'm not a student - I already told you!" said Adelaide impatiently.

McGonagall opened her mouth, then closed it. Then she said in a quiet voice, "Tell me everything."
Adelaide did. She told McGonagall EVERYTHING.
"THAT is my story," said Adelaide, gasping for breath.
