Heart's desire
Chapter 1
For some unknown reason the famed “Mirror of Erised” has been playing on my mind recently. The mirror is magical and claims to show our deepest and most desperate desire of our hearts. If you haven’t realised by now erised is desire spelt backwards so already it seems we are working with some sort of logic. It is clamed that men have wasted away in front of the mirror. Not knowing if what they see is real or even possible. So what would you see if you looked into the mirror?
Albus Dumbledore said at one point that he could see a pair of bright woolly socks, I’m not sure whether I believe this, as he may have just had cold feet at the time and needed some socks. A much younger Albus Dumbledore (1927) once saw his friend Gellert Grindelwald. I imagine this to be true.
Between the years of 1991-1992 my friend Harry Potter continued to look into the mirror. I know that most of the time he was able to see his deceased parents Lily and James Potter and there was one occasion at the end of term that I heard he was able to see himself holding the Philosopher’s Stone. If Harry were to look in the mirror today he would see paperwork flying around and his children safe and protected.
Professor Quirrell was also able to see himself holding the stone but, unlike Harry was unable to do any-thing about it.
My brother in-law Ron Weasley also looked into the mirror of erised and saw himself as Quidditch Captain, Head Boy and basically better than his brothers. Well, I suppose that’s what you get when you come from a large family.
Myself? Well, I guess, having lost both my parents I think mine is easily solved. When I was young 11/12 I looked in the mirror and I saw me, my mum and my dad. All of us together. All happy, all laughing. If I were to look in it now, I think that I would see my mum, my dad, my uncle and, of course Cedric, Tonks and Fred. I think it would basically be me wanting to bring back all the people I had lost, even though it wasn’t possible. Yes the safety of my children is important to me as well but returning those that cannot be returned seems more important.
If Molly Weasley were to look in the mirror, there is no question in my mind. She, in fact any of the Weasley family would want Fred returned to them. For him to be happy, healthy and with a family of his own.
If my Uncle Severus were to look in the mirror, actually I think he did do it already, I believe that he would see Lily Potter (i.e. a lost love) and Severina Snape (his sister). Two people that he never wanted to leave him.
I am in two minds about what Hermione would see. It is possible that she would she “safety of those I hold close” (i.e. Her children, parents and whole family) or she would she something like (profound knowledge) but what do you expect from the minister of magic?
My father, I believe would see immense power. Part of me wishes that he would see his children and grandchildren but I know better than that. I know that power, immortality and stopping Harry Potter was more important to him than anything else.
If Charlie were to look in the mirror the likelihood of him seeing Fred is, well high but I wonder if he would actually be wrapped in the wings of a dragon or something like that.
Days have gone by and I think to myself how much Draco deserves more than what he has been delt. I think if he were to look at the mirror, he would see Astoria smiling at him, ready for anything, but always smiling.
I’ve heard a lot about Credence Barebone. I don’t think people knew him well but I knew him more than others. Only, I suppose through dissimilation, through Nagini. I imagine he may see control of his powers or a togetherness that he never dared dream possible.
