Tips For Use

Chapter 2

Planetary pentacles have a wide range of magical uses, for both good and evil. It is important to carefully consider the consequences of using magic of any kind, even that used with good intentions.

A pentacle can be written, inscribed in sand, clay, chalk, or stone. It can be printed ahead of time and traced with a finger to "charge" or "activate" it. The day and time at which a pentacle is made is very important to the seal's success; making a pentacle at the wrong time leaves you with a symbol empty of power, or filled with the wrong kind of magic. Intention, the color used, and your effort are more important than materials used, or your skill at drawing circles or writing Hebrew. There's no reason, when all other elements are right, that a pentacle modified into the language of your choosing shouldn't work as well, but take care when translating names of God or the Angels.

Each planet or heavenly body listed here has it's own day of the week, and it's own hour cycle, starting with the hour after dawn, and cycling in sevens until the next sunrise. For the purpose of creating the seals of Solomon, first find the day associated with the seal's ruling planet, and then plan to create or charge your seals in the first, eighth, fifteenth, or twenty-second hour after sunrise. Seals made after dawn will have a positive, fresh energy to them, while seals made at night (22nd hour) are better for secrecy and magic associated with nighttime.

If you struggle with the languages, see my notes about Hebrew at the end of this book. There are a few other languages used in Solomon's Seals; three of them are magical languages collected and published by German Magician and Alchemist Heinrich Agrippa. These are Transitus Fluvii, the Celestial alphabet, and the Malachim alphabet. There's also a smattering of Greek, Alchemical symbols, and sigils. Many sources and magical traditions are represented in this set of Seals!
