Chapter 7

Evelyn and James had got to the middle of the forest, and they stopped, panting for breath. They had been running, eager to get to the other side of the forest quickly.
"How much do you think to go?" said Evelyn breathlessly.
"I'm not sure," said James. "But let us just rest for a moment."
"Sure," said Evelyn, and she slumped on a tree. Then she remembered that she had brought water. Despite the chilly air, she was quite hot. She gulped some water down, and then offered some to James. He took the bottle from her thankfully and drank a whole lot of water. He handed it back to Evelyn, and she put it back in her bag.
They sat there for a few minutes. Evelyn was very tired, but she knew she and James had to keep moving. Lisa might be worse. "Let's go," she said. James sighed but nodded. They stood up, and started to walk again.
"Wait. I heard something," said Evelyn suddenly. Then... a howl. Evelyn grabbed James hand. "A full moon, tonight, and in the Forbidden Forest. It must be... a werewolf."
James stared at her. "No... no, no no! No way! A actual werewolf!"
"Climb!" screamed Evelyn. She was sure she had just seen something walking slowly towards them... getting ready to pounce... She jumped up into a tree, and helped James up. They climbed to the top of the tree, and looked down. Evelyn was shaking all over, and even James hand seemed to be trembling.
"Keep quiet," breathed Evelyn. "Don't... even... move."
James was so still, and Evelyn held her breath. Anxiously she thought, please don't let the were-wolf see us! Please don't let the were-wol- there was a sudden growl, and Evelyn looked down, and she saw the worst. The were-wolf was trying to climb the tree, but with much failure, and was now scraping the tree with his claws.
"Will we have to stay up here for the rest of the night?" whispered James.
"I think so," said Evelyn, still looking at the were-wolf, for it was now pacing round the tree.
They sat in the tree anxiously, Evelyn was so scared. Oh, how she wished she was in the warm common room now, with the fire crackling and the comfy sofas - a yell and James slipped from the tree, just managing to grab a tree branch.
"James!" shrieked Evelyn. "NO!!" The werewolf had lunged up, and had almost bit James ankle.
Evelyn grabbed James hand, and tried to pull him up onto the tree branch again, but James' hands were sweaty, so she couldn't grip them that well.
The were-wolf lunged up again, and managed to sink it's teeth into James ankle.
"No - no!" Evelyn sobbed, and with great strength, she pulled James up onto the thick tree branch. "James! No!" Evelyn sobbed harder. "No!!
