Lesson Six: Africa Study Guide
Chapter 7
In the pre-classical period, the Egyptian Empire took a good interest in hieroglyphics, which helped to keep records organized. As for the rest of Africa, they were neglected due to not many findings of records of hieroglyphics or artifacts.
Heka
Egyptians suspect that it was a spiritual effort that established the gods & the world. Ivory amulets & clappers were carried around with them to show their power of the gods. The amulets were an early form of a wand, but they were less powerful in magic. The ceremonial tasks that magical people had to do were controlling the Yellow River & preforming political tasks. Chinese magic was based on rituals, medicine, & caution. Due to the restrictions, their magic was poor. The Chinese government made anti-magic laws & limited magic for all of China. The imperial servants then worked for the government. Being a magical person was illegal & were meant only for the emperors. This happened within a hundred years.
Hieroglyphs
With runes, the entire artifact is better than only a part of it. Artifacts that have written magic & also have spells on them will impact it greatly. Runic magic is long lasting; it never disappears. Other types of spells can be used to lift the runic magic.
Secrets & Lies
Secrets played a big role in Egyptian magical use. North Africa, eastern, & Middle Eastern regions were also keeping magic a secret. They thought of magic as sacred & cherished it deeply. Priests passed down incantations from master to apprentice & the rituals were written down.
Curse-Breakers
Curse-breakers is the most hazardous magical occupation. They go above & beyond to experience theories & look for artifact pieces. They are trained in this occupation for five years. These curse-breakers discover Egyptian dunes, tombs, & deserts. In 500 CE, where the Roman Empire ruled over Egypt, magical people would come together for Constantinpole. This decided upon the spell's language; Latin.
