Chapter 5

Mesopotamia

Muggles call this era the cradle of civilization or the fertile crescent. The Greek term for Mesopotamia is the land between rivers. This is due to its location between Tigris & Euphrate. The people of Sumer discovered potions such as healing & defensive concoctions. Due to their potions being very powerful, an amulet filled with magic can put us in St. Mungo's for about three months. Southern Sumer saw magical people as seers & mystical heroes, whereas the Northern Sumer hated, feared & killed magical people for being who they were; wizards.

The Phoenicia

This group had wealth, trade, seafaring prowess, Phoenic written & verbal language. In their boats, Phoenicians used magical wood & they were skilled traders who had maritime powers. The boats had protective charms but the people never knew about it. A spell's incantation was rir-rir or wal lat ick nur geg & it is almost identical to Vipera Evanesca. Spells were used by rituals where no wands were necessary.

The Indus River Valley

A History of Magic states that eighty percent of artifacts have magical traits & is mostly concentrated. The Indus River Valley people had magical awareness & very powerful magic. It was so powerful that curse-breakers can identify the type of spell. The caste system was just beginning & magical people were in the highest ranking.
