Diagon Alley

Chapter 7
We reached The Leaky Cauldron soon enough. Relieved, I flew down to the ground, sighing, and gasping. Phew! That was over - I had never really liked to fly on brooms.
Ferdinand landed right next to me - he was sighing and gasping as well. "That was fun... but breathless," he said, chuckling.
"All we have to do now is go into the Leaky Cauldron, then tap the brick wall in the right places, and then we will be in Diagon Alley," I said happily.
"Uh, OK," said Ferdinand. "Well, let's go then."
Ferdinand followed me into the Leaky Cauldron. Tom, the innkeeper, smiled toothily at us, and I returned a smile. "Good evening," he said. "Why are you going to Diagon Alley this late, kids?"
"Oh, um," I said, wildly trying to think of a excuse.
"Kids normally go to Diagon Alley at seven o'clock," said Tom. He wasn't angry, but just surprised.
"I just, um, didn't get my stuff that early - had stuff to do," said Ferdinand quickly. That was true enough.
"Um, OK, but shouldn't your parents be here?" asked Tom.
"Well, they couldn't be bothered to come," said Ferdinand, lying through his teeth.
"I see," said Tom, and he started to wipe the glasses with a handkerchief.
Ferdinand and I went out the back door, and I tapped the bricks with my wand on the certain places where I should. The bricks moved aside to reveal Diagon Alley.
It was the same.
The wide cobbled street, Flourish and Blotts was there (of course, and that was my favourite shop, well, maybe Eeylops Owl Emporium was as well), Quality Quidditch Supplies shop was there, Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, Gringotts, and all the others!
"WOW." Ferdinand stared at all the shops - he looked as though he could have stood there looking for a hundred more years.
"Well, let's get your stuff before the shops close," I said.
Ferdinand nodded, and after a whole hour, we had got all the stuff he needed.
"Um, do you want a pet, or something?" I asked him.
"Oh yes please!" he said eagerly. "I've always wanted a owl... or a rat."
"Well, let's quickly go into Eeylops Owl Emporiums, then to Magical Menagerie shop. The Magical Menagerie has rats, toads and cats, but Eeylops Owl Emporiums only has owls, obviously," I said.
"So I can take a rat and a owl?"
"Yes, but make sure you're owl doesn't eat the rat," I said, smiling a little.
We went to Eeylops Owl Emporium first, and Ferdinand chose to have a cute great horned owl, which was black with little strips of grey as well. ((By the way, if you don't know what Great Horned Owls look like, copy and paste this URL link to view one that looks like Ferdinand's owl:

Ferdinand and I went to Magical Menageries, and Ferdinand chose a nice little black rat. (He obviously liked the colour black.)
"OK, I think you're all done," I said. "Yup. You have your books, your cauldron, three pairs of black robes and one pointed black hat, some scales... and all the other things. Oh my goodness, I forgot, you haven't got your wand! Ohhh, how could I forget! Come on, let's get your wand!"
