The Hunger Games to the Letter
Chapter 1
I was a killer. I would kill people with intelligent ways, mostly with a pocket knife or bow. Except, I always hated it. I actually tried to eat these poisonous berries at one point, but the male tribute stopped me. He was killed by a district three closer to the end. He was a great man (even though he was only 15, two years older than me).
I was on this tour, going around to other districts and such while trying to act peppy and such when I got mail. I never had before, and I know the mail was addressed right and sent to the right person. Who else in District Ten could possibly have the name "Annalise Miracle"? Most likely nobody.
I didn't open the letter for a while. I thought someone sent it with some technology that could kill me. But then again, who was possibly that smart? Probably nobody.
When I did open it I found this piece of paper with all of this writing in cursive and ink and it was weird. I don't know why, but it just was weird. As I started reading I got more and more nervous.
It talked about a place called "Hogwarts" and how I was a "witch". After hearing that I wish it was a technology to kill me. It sounded like another Hunger Games just...worse.
I was nervous. I told my mother and my brother about it, but they never heard of it. Nobody in District 10 had. Not my friends. Not my family. Not my enemies. Nobody.
I took this letter with me everywhere. When I would go help with the animals, when I would go to the market, when I would sneak out. Just in case I ever found someone who knew what this place was. Or if I wanted to go to this place. By the sound of it, if it was a Hunger Game thing I would win in a day. I don't think the people in this could be that smart. Especially since it mentions everyone being eleven when they start, but me being older because of reasons not listed. Rude much?
Anyway, I was out taking care of the animals when it happened. This owl just landed in front of me. Which, I would've been fine with, if it wasn't noon! The owl had a letter attached to its leg, which I read. It explained if I wanted to go to this place I would have to do so by the end of this month. They said they'd send someone to wait for me, but if I didn't show within the time the train was leaving on that day they would assume I wasn't coming.
Naturally, this was a challenge for me I was willing to take. I did double when taking care of the animals and helped mom a lot more. She was supportive of me going off, even if it was for a year and I may never show up then anyway. I guess she got used to it after my last game. Im just surprised the Capitol is allowing it.
I was able to pack very little, but I managed to get MT most needed things. And a book. I had to admit, I was nervous. Especially since the day I departed was just a night away.
I stayed out with the cows most of the night that night. I enjoyed the comfort of the hay and the cool wind. I brought my bow with me too, so I could practice shooting. There were a lot of wild animals to do so on. I mean, I had to prepare for this weird thing I was going to be against soon enough.
I knew I would miss the start of the next Hunger Games, so I wouldn't have to be a mentor. That was a good thing. But I would miss my family and the cows and chickens ever so much. They were my family, and a good one. Now I had to go try and not get killed again.
The air got crisper and crisper as the minutes went by. Eventually it was so crisp I had to go back inside. I curled up in my bed and stared at the ceiling, wishing I never had chosen to try this new type of game. For all I know it could be a game where everyone dies. That's why it lasts a year. Or simply because these people are smart and there is so many of them. I'll find out tomorrow, and I hope it isn't that bad. If it starts on a train, then I already know I made the wrong choice. Trains are only the start of your worst nightmares and even much more.
