Knitting

Chapter 1
A few days ago, I challenged you to 30 days of meditation. This is somewhat different, a reward if you like to yourself for your persistence or perhaps a present to a loved one. It is known that Mrs Molly Weasley has herself been made famous for her matching scarves, socks, gloves, hats and jumpers that people have received over the years. Oddly enough she never plucked up enough courage to give one to my uncle but I believe that there was one at Grimmauld Place, green, with an “S” on it. It is now mine.

I may not be as good or care quite so much for the art of knitting but I have made a few things in my time, both magically and non-magically. So, let us start with the basics.

Knitting is basically a form of looping and stitching of a continuous thread. You can make clothes and toys among other things. If you don’t know how to knit or you are just learning a scarf is a great place to start. You can find patterns in Muggle magazines and there are craft boxes that supply the wool, needles and give instructions.
There are various types of stitches and when put together will make patterns or form functions.

Knit 2 / Pearl 2 is a common instruction and allows movement in the garment.

The most complicated thing I made was a lamb for easter. It has various sections that then need to be put together. After a few years his head wobbles a bit but he still looks pretty good. If you want to have a go, it doesn’t take very long and I have heard that there are some Hogwarts knitting patterns around if you want to look at those. Post photos and have a great time.

N.B. you can get loads of free patterns so if you have family members that like to knit and you want something... then Christmas is right around the corner. There are socks, jumpers, scarves, nifflers, pixies, gloves, hats lits goes on and on...
