The Ticking Clock (Part Four, the Final Part) (Short Story)
Chapter 9
“I am not hiding!” exclaimed Cynthia’s uncle, “I am only… hiding.”
“Would you mind explaining to me why?” Cynthia asked crossly.
“Well you see...” Cynthia’s uncle said slowly, “That clock that you have been panicking about is only a hoax.”
And he went on to explain how he had done it all. He had rigged the clock in a way so that he could control when it ticked. It was simply a spell that he had created for this very purpose. Cynthia’s uncle had always been a big prankster, and you could never take him seriously. Cynthia scolded her uncle for giving her such a big fright. They sat down on the porch bench and talked for hours.
