Muggle Town
Chapter 4
I looked up at the sign saying, 'Silverway Town.' And there was a arrow pointing right. So that was the way to the muggle town. I started to walk down that path, which was a clear brown path, with green grass on either side of it. I knew I was quite far from the road, and there were hills on either side of me, but quite far away.
I soon came to the end of the path, and there was the town! There was two roads going left and right, and muggles were walking briskly down the street, carrying bags or holding crying babies. Cars went by, and I saw two boys bullying another small boy.
Hatred boiled inside me - I knew what it felt like to be bullied. So I walked over to the two boys that were bullying the younger boy, and I said loudly and angrily, "Leave. Him. Alone."
One of the big boys scoffed, "Who are you? A stupid simple girl?"
The other boy laughed meanly. "Stupid, simple girl," he repeated, and he burst into more laughter.
I thought, stupid, simple girl? Simple, well, he was wrong. I was not a simple girl. I was a witch.
"I said, leave him ALONE." I stared at the two big boys.
"No, we're not going to leave him alone!" said the first boy.
"No, we're not," echoed the second boy.
I had had enough. I was about to draw my wand, when I remembered that I was not allowed to use magic outside Hogwarts.
So I used my fists instead.
I punched the second boy in the eye, but the first boy was not so stupid. He dodged my fist I had been aiming to hit him with, and he kicked me in the shin and I buckled over, gritting my teeth because of the pain.
Then I grabbed his legs, and down he went, BAM - onto the concrete.
I quickly stood up, and looked down at the two bodies lying on the concrete.
The first boy staggered up, and glared at me. He had a big bruise on his leg, and his hand was bleeding. His friend, too, got up, and they both glared once more at me, before limping away.
"You'll get revenge!" The boy called from behind his shoulder, his friend helping him to walk.
I glared back at them, and then looked down at my shin. It had a bruise, and my knee was bleeding badly. I winced, then turned to the other boy. "Are you OK?"
"Yeah - and thanks for helping me," he said, smiling slightly. "Um, the name's Ferdinand. Who are you?"
I hesitated before saying, "Sylvia."
"Oh." Ferdinand just looked at me.
Then I saw something in his pocket. It was brown, and thin, and just then I realised that it was a wand!
"Are you a wizard?" I asked excitedly.
"A... a wizard? A wizard? What on earth do you mean, I'm a wizard. I'm a normal person, duh!" He stared at me. "Um, are you OK?"
"Yes, of course I am, well, except for my leg, but you've got a wand! You must be a wizard!"
"I just found it on the street, and I thought it looked cool, so I just pocketed it, and then I got bullied by those boys."
I was curious. Why had someone just left a wand on the street. Maybe it had fallen out of his or her pocket. I asked Ferdinand, "Can I have a look at it?"
"Yeah, sure." Ferdinand pulled out the wand from his pocket. It was a nice wand. It had patterns on it, and it was a nice light brown.
I took it from him, and stared at it. "Hmmm. Nice."
"So, you're just a mugg-" But I quickly stopped. If I said 'muggle' Ferdinand would certainly think that as an insult.
"What were you going to call me?" he asked suspiciously.
"Um, nothing!" I said quickly.
"There is something up with you. You're acting weirdly," said Ferdinand, looking at me. "Come on, tell me."
I hesitated. Should I tell a muggle about Hogwarts? No, I don't think I should, but Ferdinand was looking at me eagerly, so I finally told him all about Hogwarts.
"Wow!" said Ferdinand. "Hogwarts seems like a cool place! Can non-magic people go to Hogwarts?"
"Um, sadly, no," I said, looking at Ferdinand, and feeling quite sorry for him.
"Oh." Ferdinand looked at his feet. Clearly he was feeling upset. Then he brightened and said, "But I got a letter from someone! I think her name was Professor McGinnik, or something," said Ferdinand. "No, I think it was -"
"You? You got a letter from Professor McGonagall? Ohhh! You must be a muggle-born, so that's why you don't know about Hogwarts!"
"So I can go to Hogwarts?" asked Ferdinand excitedly.
"Yes, you can!" I said. I, too, was excited for Ferdinand. "Um, can I come to your house and then I can talk to you properly? Maybe we shouldn't speak here." I looked around the street. It was getting dark.
"OK, sure. I'll ask my mum and dad." Ferdinand beckoned for me to follow him, and willingly I did.
