Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

Chapter 8
When I enter the telegram turns on right away. It's my friend Thea's dad.
"Hello, Lila. As you know Thea is at home right now. But she has been worried about you ever since you passed out. So, please go see her." He finishes and the telegram disappears.
I wobble in place and fall to the floor. I lean my head against the wall. My hands slowly stop shaking and my ears stop ringing. I get up and sway a little. I fall to the floor again but crash into something. Next thing I know I hear someone whisper my name.
"Lila, Lila, Lila please wake up." And it's Conner's voice.
I move my head but something holding it. That's when I open my eyes and I'm in Conner's lap. I look at him and I'm confused. I look around the room. I see Ky sitting down on the floor next to Conner.
"W-What's going on?" I ask still very confused and my head is aching. I feel the electric current going through Conner and I like this morning. I ask again but with more volume in my voice. "What happened?"
Ky and Conner look at each other. Not sure what to say. Then Ky says, "Lila, are you all right?"
"Of course I'm alright. Why wouldn't I be?" I'm so confused. Why are they looking at me like that? Why is my head throbbing still?
Conner says something but I'm gone again. This time in a black tunnel. When I wake up someone is shaking my shoulder and saying "Lila! Lila!" I can't comprehend the voice though. Then I'm gone again and I can't feel or hear anything. Maybe I'm dieing? Or maybe I passed out again? I don't know. Then I'm awake again but this time on the couch in the living room. I move but instead of staying in place, I fall on the floor.
"Ouch!" I complain and then I realize that someone is on the couch. I look up and see everyone. Mom, dad, Ky, and Conner. I start to panic. "What's going on!!" I yell at them waiting for answers. They all look at each other and then I realize that I have a bandage on the back of my head. I touch it and cry from pain. They all rush to my side.
"What hurts?" "We should check the bandage." They all talk at once and it's making me dizzy. I hold up one finger to silence them. They do which is good. "What happened?" I ask.
My mom responds this time. "Well, honey you got a telegram, and then on your way out you hit your head against the table in the hallway. And you passed out and oh honey that doesn't matter now. What matters is that your ok."
I look at all of them like I lost my mind. I want to stand up but I'm too dizzy. I lay back down and fall asleep. When I wake up I hear the door closing. I'm still in the living room but Conner had to leave I just know it. Then I fall back asleep but when I wake up again it's to the sound of someone else talking. Someone that scares the death out of me.
