The Giver (A Fanfiction)

written by (: GONE !!

Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

Chapter 4
I freeze. She knows that he was missing, didn't she?
"What," I say. "About him?"
She looks at me before speaking. "I have heard that he is missing his morning injections on purpose. And you know what will happen right? If he keeps missing them he will die, Lila."
I want to say something but hold my tongue because I know if I do I would get into trouble.
I nod. "Of course I know that," I say matter-of-factly. "Who doesn't?"
She nods at these words. "Indeed who doesn't but apparently Conner doesn't or forgot but that is impossible." She shakes her head sadly. "Lila, you have to warn him before it's too late, ok?"
"Of course," I say. "All I want is t-." I stopped because her face changed for a second just like Conners' and Theas' shirt.
I blink and it disappears. I shake my head and continue.
"All I want to do is help," I whisper and stare down at my hands. "What can I do? What if he doesn't listen?" I know he won't.
She nods understanding this. "You must try your hardest and if he doesn't. We will give him a month so you must stop him or we have no choice but to release him for a while. You understand that don't you?"
I nod. To shocked to answer.
I can't believe that she just said that she was going to release my friend. I was angry, no annoyed. She has no right, maybe she all the rights, but still to release my friend for a while just because he was skipping morning injections.
She stands up to leave. "Goodbye, Lila." She looks at me deep in my eyes reminding me to do what she told me.
My hands start to shake as she leaves. I try my hardest to not pass-out again.
My father walks in and sees me.
"Lila, are you ok? Do you need to lie down for a little bit?"
I just nod.
I walk with him to my room and he walks me slowly to the bed. Once my head hits the pillow I'm out.
I wake up the next morning form my brother who was singing or trying to at least. He is practicing for the December Ceremony. For some reason he wants to be a singer which doesn't even exist now because they all died 2-3 years ago. I yawn and walk out in to the hall way. The singing is louder. I cover my ears to make the sound quieter.
"Ky!!" I yell, "What are you doing!!"
The singing stops. "Singing, Lila. What else would I do I want to be a singer remember?"
I sigh. "Yes, Ky I remember. But remember that they stopped having singers 3 years ago. They were all released to elsewhere."
He frowns. "Yes, I remember but once they hear my singing they will reconsider. You just wait."
"Sure they will Ky. Sure they will." I walk away as I say it.
I wonder around in the kitchen until I find what I want. Food. I grab a apple and sit in my chair at the table.
Once I finish there is a knock on door.
"I got it!" I yell.
I open the door and find Conner standing there.
"Hi, Conner." I say.
"Hello, Lil Flower." He says with a smirk.
He gave me that nickname a long time ago for some reason I don't know why.
I laugh. "Ok what's going on you never say that unless you need to tell my something or show me something."
He laughs and pulls his hand through his hair. "Ok you caught me. I need to show and tell you something. Follow me please." He puts a hand on my shoulder and I freeze. We weren't suppose to be touching each other like this. It was adjenst the rules.
He immdently takes his hand off my shoulder and I immdently relaxe.
"I need to talk to you too." I say. "Lets go."
Then I realize one thing. The warning from the Chief Elder said to me immdently tenses me. He will die soon and it will be all my fault.
