The Giver (A Fanfiction)
written by (: GONE !!
Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

My dad brings me to the hologram projector. I freeze right before. My hands break into a sweat, my ears start ringing, and the room is swaying. My dad gives me a worried look like are you going to make it through this call without me. I nod and him and he starts the hologram.
"Hello, Lila Black." The Chief Elder says, "I am checking up on you....Lila are you ok?"
That's the last thing I hear before I fall and hit the floor. The only thing I remember is my brother crying or at least I think it's him and Thea rushing to meet us at the fork. But after that, I couldn't remember. When I wake up I am in the hospital...again. I groan and try to sit up but the room sways around me. The nurse comes in and says.
"Are you alright Lila?" She says.
I nod. "Yeah just got too scared and you know the rest."
I recognize her. She is the 12 from last year who was the only one who got to work in the hospital.
"Can I go home now?" I ask. "I want to see my family."
She looks at me. "Of course. Can I send the papers with you so you could give them to your parents?"
I nod.
She gets the papers. Puts them in a backpack that's not mine. It's the hospitals. I put it in my back and go outside. But then I realize I don't have a bike. But then I see him. My other friend Conner. I wave my hand.
"Hey, Conner." I say, "What are you doing here?"
"Your mom thought I could give you a ride home?" He rubs his hand on the back of his neck.
"Ok thanks."
"Welcome."
I hop on the back of his bike. He gets in the front and starts going. I have to grab the handles because I can't touch him unless he is my family. Which he is not.
"So.." I say.
"So.. What?" He says.
"Nothing," I say. I can't say it because it would make it awkward.
"Lila," He stops the bike and turns to me. "You can ask me anything you know? That's what friends do."
I take a breath before saying it. "You seem different Conner. Like your face turns darker and for some reason, you won't tell me."
I look at him.
He looks deep into my eyes before he starts. "I know I have Lila but you have to promise not to tell anyone. Ok?"
I nod.
