Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

~Lila's pov.~
I go home after dinner. Conner comes with me and we ride our bikes. We act normal as we pass people but when we get behind the trees we hold hands and ride bikes. We wobble a little but not much. We get to my house and we both frown.
"I don't want to leave you..."I whisper to him.
"Me too but I'll see you tomorrow at the Ceremony of 12." He gets back on his bike and waves goodbye to me as he heads back home. My heart drops as I watch him leave but I put on a fake face when I knock on the door. I hear everyone walking towards the door. It opens and I see my parents and Ky.
"Hi," is all I get out because they crush me into a hug. I hug them back but I don't feel loved at all. I feel lonely. They pull me inside and bring me to the living room where I see Thea waiting with her parents. "Thea!!" I rush over to her but stop. They all stare at me and I realized I messed up. "Sorry, I had a bad fever last night I think I might still have side effects." They all nod.
"Lila, I missed you so much!!" Says Thea and we walk into the kitchen. "What happened to you??"
I look at her then eat some grapes that are on the table. "I got sick and Conner's parents took care of me."
She sighs and shakes her head. "No, your mom said you 'forgot' to take injections. I know you did it on purpose. Why?? We could die without it."
I have to lie. I hate lying but I have to. I look at her dead in the eyes. "I forgot because I had to take care of Ky for a while and I forgot to eat breakfast which I usually take them in."
She eyes me for a second. "Hmm..fine. I have to go before it's too late. Good night Lila."
I smile a fake smile. "Good night Thea." I lead her to the door where her parents wait on their bikes. I wave them goodbye and head back inside. I go upstairs and get on some shorts and a T-shirt. I climb into bed and fall asleep. I dream about everything. Lossing Conner and Thea. Getting released. My family having fake feelings about my death. I jolt awake at midnight for some reason. I rub my eyes and turn on my bedside lamp. I hear a tap on my window. I open my curtains and see Conner standing there up in a tree. I open the window. "What are you doing here??"
He smiles and comes into my room. "I had to see you again before the Ceremony of 12. I couldn't help it." He hugs me and I hug him back. The electric current flows through us like crazy. Then this strange desire comes. All I want is him against me. I kiss him and he kisses me back but I take it a step further. I tangle my fingers in his hair and deepen the kiss. His hands hold my waist closer to him. We stand there kissing like crazy. We break apart and rest our foreheads together.
"I don't want to go but my parents will worry about me..." He sighs and lets me go. He goes out the window again and blows me a kiss. My face gets hot, like burning hot. "You're blushing..." He teases me.
"That's what it is??" I ask and walk over to the window. He smiles. He must think I'm going there for him but nope. I close the window in his face and giggle. He laughs. I wave goodbye and so does he. I go back to bed and think about Conner the whole time. I fall asleep happily and remember the kiss on my lips.
