Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

~Conner's pov.~
I watch fall asleep in my arms. She sighs happy and content. I kiss the top of her head and an electric shock jolts through me. Never gets old. I carefully put her on a pillow so I can talk to my parents. I walk upstairs and knock on my parent's door.
"Mom?? Dad?? Can we talk??" I ask them as soon as they give me attention.
"Sure, what's going on??" Dad asks.
I shift uncomfortably. "The Cheif Elder said if I don't take injections they will release me..."
My mom gasps and runs to give me a hug. "No. We won't allow them to."
My dad hugs both my mom and me. "Son we would never ever let them take you away from us. Now go back to Lila because tomorrow is a big day. It's your Ceremony of 12!!" I nod and head back downstairs. I already knew my role but still the ceremony will be scary because she will say something about both of us being the Receiver of Memory. I carefully pull Lila back on to me. She wakes up sadly from the movement.
"Lila," I sigh her name. "Tomorrow is a big day. It's our Ceremony of 12!!"
She smiles but it quickly fades. "Conner can I tell you something??"
"Anything," I practically beg her.
She shifts so she is sitting beside me. "The Cheif Elder told me that we have to compete for the Receiver of Memory spot. She said whoever losses in the year we are given will be..." She doesn't finish.
"Will be what??" I ask but I feel like I already know.
"Released..." She whispers.
She starts crying...yeah crying. I hug her while she cries. This can't be happening. One of us is going to be released!! No!! "Lila, I'll fail so you can have the spot..."
She sits up and looks angry and mad. "No!! You take the spot!!"
"No, I'm not taking the spot while you get released!! I'm not taking it!!"
"Yes, you are!! You are going to take it!!" She yells at me. I hate fighting but we have to.
"Lila, your everything to me so you need to take it!!" I yell back.
"Conner, your everything to me too, and I'm not taking you are!!" She gets up and stands in front of me yelling.
I get up but this time yell no this time I kiss her. I let all my anger and emotions out. She wraps her arms around my neck and my hands squeeze her hips. We break apart to breathe but our foreheads rest on each other.
"I'm sorry for yelling." She whispers. "I just don't want to lose you."
"I'm sorry too. I don't ever want to think about losing you." I whisper and start laughing she joins in. We go back to the couch and just cuddle till dinner.
