The Giver (A Fanfiction)
written by (: GONE !!
Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

~Lila's pov.~
I wake up off and on from the burning. I keep screaming about and everyone is whispering compared to my screaming. The burning is the worst part. It keeps getting me under into darkness. I can't feel Conner's parents' hands or Conner's hand. Then all of a sudden the burning stops to the point it's dull pain. I can hear Conner talking but I can't really make sense of it. Then I decide I need to open my mouth without screaming.
"Coner...." I say sleepily. I hear him rush over and I think he might have tripped over a blanket.
"I'm here, Lila. I'm not leaving you." He assures me.
The burn flares up again this time and I hold my tongue or I'm going to scream. "It...burns..." I manage to say without screaming. I move my hand looking for his. He must know what I wanted and grab my hand gently.
"I know, Lila. But the medicine will kick in soon. Go to sleep." I do what he says and I think he falls asleep too because I can hear him snore. The pain flares up and subsides throughout the whole night. I wake up early morning in a sweat.
"Your fever broke last night it seems." Conner's mom says to me. I smile weakly and hold my hands out. She grabs them and helps me up and leads me to the dining table. I sit across from Conner who is smiling at me. I blush and look down at the table. "Lila you can go home today if you want. Conner will take you. But remember come back as much as you can. Lie if you need to." She gets up and serves some toast and bacon. I eat some but not much.
"Is it ok if I stay here today??" I look around the table at them then stop at Conner.
"Yes, you may. We do need to make sure your temp stays the same. So yes you can." Conner's father says. I smile a little and excuse myself. Conner's mother leads me to the bathroom and helps me take a bath because I'm very weak. She gives me some clean shorts with a top. The top changes like everything else that has changed. I blink and it's gone. I smile at her worried look and she leads me to the couch. I chill on the couch the whole day while Conner is in and out. He brings me homework and helps me to the kitchen table. I feel the electricity go crazy through us. He pulls my chair close to his so he can explain.
"Do you understand now??" He asks after he helped me with the math.
"Yes." I kiss him gently on the lips but he takes it a step further. He grabs my waist and presses me against his body. My mind whirls and I can't focus at all except his kiss. I kiss him harder and he does the same. I wrap my arms around his neck. We pull away when we hear someone enter the kitchen. We look and see his dad standing in the entryway laughing.
"You two are just like your mom and me, Conner." We laugh with him. He leaves and we continue our homework. I can't really focus because all I can think of is the kiss. We finish and get some fruit and go watch some more TV. I snuggle up against Conner and he wraps his arms around me. I sigh and fall asleep peacefully for once.
