The Giver (A Fanfiction)
written by (: GONE !!
Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

~Lila's pov.~
"But first things first. "He says. "You need to stop screaming. Or we'll get in trouble." He whispers gently. I nod, clenching my teeth containing a scream. I wrap my arms around my chest, holding my ribs. He picks me up and carries me to his bike. "Ok, Lila hold on tight to me. Or you're going to fall." He says matter-of-factly. I nod again and unwrap my arms from my chest and reluctantly put them around him. I gasp for air and each breath is like a stabbing pain. We get to his house fast. I'm still gasping for air but none really comes now. The pain never subsides but the air feels like it's leaving my lungs. I start to panic which makes my lungs and chest hurt worse. My throat feels swollen and my breathing feels like a knife cutting my lungs bit by bit. Conner looks at me in concern. He quickly gets off his bike and carries me into his house. He runs in and yells. "MOM!! DAD!! HURRY PLS!! NOW!!"
They run out of their offices and come to Conner. "What is it, son??" His mother asks him with a worried look. Then they see me in his arms. His father grabs me and his mother races to their dining room table and gets a blanket to put on top. "Lay her down here." Conner's mother orders his father. He gently places me on the table. Even though he did it lightly it felt like a saw cutting my lungs. I scream out in agony. His mother grabs stuff from the cabinet.
"Conner, what happened??" His father asks.
Conner shakes his head. "I-I don't know. One minute she one fine the next she collapsed and started to scream." He looks at me. "Help her pls. Help her."
"We will son but first you're going to have to leave the room." His father says. Conner walks out without another word.
~Conner's pov.~
I walk out with my head low. I go into my room and listen to my parents trying to calm Lila. She keeps screaming and gasping for air so loud that I could hear her on the second floor. Then I hear something that makes my heart swell. "Where....is...Conner..?" Lila asks. I race out of my room and to the kitchen. I see her sickly pale and sweaty. I race over and grab her hand. "Stay...." Then she is got after a shaky breath. I look at my parents.
My mother talks first. "We gave her some meds. And took a blood sample to find out why she is reacting like this." She walks over and pulls a chair out. Then gently presses me down in it. "Sit here with her and yell for us if something happens." They walk out with her DNA in a tube. I sit there and watch Lila. She takes ragged breaths for so long that I thought she was dying but with the meds, they became less and less. I sigh with relief. I start to get tired and I don't know when but I fell asleep next to her.
~Lila's pov.~
I wake up to Conner's snores. I look around and start to panic. Where Am I?? My breathing speeds. I don't remember getting here that well and right now I don't remember it at all. Conner wakes up to my breath. He looks alarmed as I do. Then he yells. "MOM!! DAD!! SHE'S AWAKE!!" I cringe away from the noise. Then he lowers his voice to me and says. "Lila, shhhh. Calm down you're ok." His parents enter the kitchen and walk over to me.
"How are you feeling, Lila??" His father asks me.
I go mute. My mouth shuts down. I just shake my head.
"We know what's wrong dear." His mother says softly. "You're allergic to something in the injections that can happen when you stop taking them and retake them again. So you can no longer take injections. You have to fake it well my dear. Just like we do." She whispers the last sentence. I stare at them stunned them my mouth goes unmute.
"You do??" I ask them quietly.
"Yes dear, we do. We have for as long as I can remember. Now we won't talk about it for long. But you must come here as often as you can ok?" She says.
I stare at Conner. "Yes." They all sigh in relief. And I fall asleep, happily this time though. I wake up for dinner and they contact my parents to tell them that I'm staying here for supervision because I fell off my bike and hit my head. So it would explain my knees and hands. They move me to the couch and later Conner comes down and sleeps on the floor next to me. We watch TV for about 3 minutes before we fall into a deep sleep.
