The Giver (A Fanfiction)
written by (: GONE !!
Hi!! My name is Lila Black. I live in a community of sameness. So that means no color, no emotions, no real family, no choices, and no LOVE. Where I live is called a dwelling and I can't touch anyone outside my imminent family. We have no memories but our own. The memories are kept by the Receiver of Memory the most important person in the community. The Elders keep us in line and make the choices for us. We have morning injections to keep the "stirrings" away. The "stirrings" are dreams of people and that those dreams have rules are broken. I took morning injections until I found out what they were. Now time to start. Let's go back to my dwelling.

Oh, no I thought as I was listening to them talking. She knows about Conner and me, I just know it. I get up and walk shakily to the dining table. Ky left for his lessons by now. I walk in and take my seat without looking at my "parents" and the Chief Elder.
"Lila," My mom said gently. "Look up you know it's rude not to greet the Cheif Elder." She squeezes my hand and gives me a look. Great I thought she makes that look when she is "mad" at me.
"I know," I say. "I'm sorry but I'm just out of it." As I say it I regret it. They are going to make me take injections again.
"Oh, honey are you taking injections? Babe go get the injection checker, I want to see if she is low on taking them."
My dad gets up and goes to the cabinet to get the injection checker thing. But I can't focus on that. They're going to make me feel nothing again but fake anger, happiness, and sadness. I can't let that happen but before I get to say anything they put it over my vein and it says low. "Oh, dear." My mother says in a worried voice. "Honey you need to take the injections now. Come on." She grabs my arm and pulls me to the cabinet where the injections are. She grabs my injection and puts it in my arm. Instantly I can't feel what I felt earlier. I want to scream but I feel nothing but sameness like them.
"Let us go back to our guest now, mother." I grab her hand and we walk back to the table where they wait. "Hello, Chief Elder. I'm sorry for my rudeness earlier." I apologize.
"I forgive your apology. Now I want to talk to you alone again if you don't mind. Please, father and mother, go to the living area while I talk to your daughter." She says kindly and gives them a smile as they leave. They smile back politely but my father has worry in his eyes. She turns back to me once they are gone. "Ok, Lila how is our project going?" She asks with hope in her voice.
"It's going well. I'm convincing him well that he will start taking them." I'm lying and I know I can't lie but for Conner's sake, I'm lying. I almost tell her the truth but I hold my tongue. She eyes me but I can tell she believes me. She thinks I'm telling the truth. But I'm not.
"Ok, great thank you for telling me, Lila. And now I'm also here to tell you something else. So you are the next Receiver of Memory. But so is Conner. Now, this is going to get complicated. You know that only know that we can only have one Reciever of Memory so we have to choose. Conner and you are at the same level right now but after training, we will pick one of you too. The one we don't pick will be..." She leans in and whispers. "Released."
