SCENE ONE
Chapter 1
We open in a nice, big kitchen. Fifteen year old KERRIS DONFELT sits with thirteen year old LIBBY BROWN. They are deep in discussion, though Kerris keeps looking at the clock worryingly.
LIBBY: So I should tell them to stop?
KERRIS: Yes, Libby! Before it's too late-
It goes gray. We see a scene from the past. The color is oddly off, as if it's been bleached. We see Kerris running into a room, crying, sobbing, screaming.
(KERRIS: No! Luce, no!)
Then we are snapped back to the present by Libby's fingers.
LIBBY: Kerris? Are you okay?
KERRIS: (snaps to) Yes! Of course I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be? (she gives a nervous chuckle)
LIBBY: (skeptically) O-kay. Are your parents in town?
KERRIS: (annoyed laugh) In town. That's a great way to put them stopping in on their own mansion just to make sure their daughter's been paying the bills.
LIBBY: What?
KERRIS: (startled, trying to cover up her mistake) Just a monologue I'm practicing for drama class.
LIBBY: You're taking drama?
KERRIS: Uh, yeah. Of course.
LIBBY: Well, maybe we'll be in the theatre club together when I'm in highschool!
KERRIS: Great! Wow, look at the time. I have to go. In fact, I was supposed to be at school ten minutes ago, so, yeah. I need to go. Bye!
She grabs her backpack and runs out the door. Libby follows.
