Being a Hufflepuff
Chapter 4
Jack stood up quickly, and ran to the cheering Hufflepuffs. He sat down on a bench next to a Prefect girl, who said enthusiastically, "Well done for getting sorted into Hufflepuff!"
"Thanks," said Jack, forcing a smile. He didn't mind that the Hat had sorted him into Hufflepuff, but he had wanted to be in the same house as Hugo, because they were friends now, weren't they?
"Yes, everyone!" said McGonagall. "Dinnertime!" And golden plates and cups appeared in front of every student, and there was food - piles and piles of food!
Jack momentarily forgot about Hugo, and he tucked in, firstly starting with Puttanesca, a delicious dinner meal with spaghetti and tomato on top, with olives.
He finished that, then served himself peas and potatoes with silverbeet, silverside, and mayonnaise.
He finished that, and he was so full and sleepy. He slumped back, hands resting on his legs.
"But wait," said the Prefect Girl, "there is still pudding to come!"
And it was true. Pudding arrived soon enough, and Jack could only fit in one helping of Chocolate Self Saucing Pudding.
When everyone had finished their pudding, and each one had slumped dozily back in his/her chair, McGonagall said, "I hope you have enjoyed that?"
The students murmured their agreement. Jack looked up at McGonagall, his eyelids almost closed. "Now you shall go to bed - it has been a long day," she said. "Now, go along, all of you!" And she smiled kindly.
Jack got up at once, still very tired. But he immediately got alert once again, for he had just seen the staircases moving! Actually!
"First years! Hufflepuffs! This way please," said the Prefect Girl. "I will expect you to know your way to your Hufflepuff common room after I have showed you the way, and you will probably know your way all around Hogwarts after a week, or something, I expect."
Jack doubted that. Hogwarts was so big! How could he know his way all around Hogwarts in a week?
They walked down, down, and went towards the kitchens, located in the basement of the castle. The entrance to the Hufflepuff common room is specifically in a nook on the right-hand side of the kitchen corridor.
"To enter the Hufflepuff common room, you have to tap one of the barrels two from the bottom, middle of the second row to be precise - to the rhythm of Helga Hufflepuff," said the Prefect Girl.
"Okay," said Jack to himself.
The Prefect Girl tapped one of the barrels two from the bottom, and the middle of the second - in the rythm of Helga Hufflepuff, and the barrels moved out of the way to reveal a door.
The Prefect opened it, and inside was the Hufflepuff common room, and it was so pretty. There was a little fire with yellow comfy armchairs and pot plants hanging from the roof. There were also three round windows near the roof.
Jack immediately slumped onto one of the armchairs, so sleepy.
But he knew he should get into his comfy soft bed, so he went slowly up to the Hufflepuff boys dormitories, and without bothering to change into his pajamas, he jumped onto his bed and it seemed like only a second until he fell asleep.
The next morning arrived. Jack got up, yawing.
