Chapter 1
3:00 AM. Time to head out. It's not like I was sleeping any way. I haven't slept in weeks. I checked my hand. "GN Kiddos!" was written across it in a light blue ink, while underneath it in dark blue were the words "Purple do try to get some sleep," And "I love you all!! was sprawled in a sparkly red gel. I uncapped my purple pen and wrote next to the dark blue, "sorry tech. late shift." 2 minutes went by. no response. of course any sane human would be asleep.
my shift didn't start until 3:30, so I had about 5 minutes to get ready, then 20 minutes to walk to work. I grabbed my purple and black hoodie from beside my bed, put on my ratty black sneakers and headed down stairs. good thing De and Remus were asleep. I don't think I could have dealt with them right then. I lived in a small apartment with my horrible roommates De and Remus. I would have moved out ages ago, but that would have meant getting my own place, and I could barely afford to pay 1/3 of the rent for this dumpsterfire of an apartment. I worked 4 jobs and was a freshman at the local community collage. not to mention anxiety, depression, insomnia and ptsd. my life was far from perfect.
Any ways, I shrugged on my hoodie, and made my way down the streets of Boston. as expected it took about 20 minutes to arrive at Mc Donald's.
"oh my god, if it isn't my favorite emo. Its been like forever," Remy, my coworker and only friend, shouted from across the restaurant. I grinned.
"Remy I saw you on Tuesday."
"Exactly. Girl its been 3 days I missed you." Idiot. "So what have you been up to?" I was about to answer when a loud voice screamed from the drive thru.
"EXUSE ME! I WANT MY HAPPY MEAL!" Remy rolled his eyes at me then went to sort out the Karen. I put on my apron and stood behind the counter. I stretched, and my sleeve fell down a bit, reveling that dark blue had replied.
"this has become a serious problem. have you considered seeking medical treatment?"
"can't afford it, anyway what are you doing up so late?" I replied.
5 minutes. no answer. 5 more minutes. A tall teenager entered the restaurant. He had a black polo shirt, blue necktie, and wore thin glasses. He had a brown satchel bag. 'nerd' was the first thing to enter my mind. but oh my god he was a cute nerd. I silently panicked as he walked up to the counter and studied the menu. I could feel my face turning red. Cute nerd. help. Very cute Nerd. I glanced down at his bag. Pins and buttons covered it. I saw buttons with math formulas, book references, all nerd things. Then one pin caught my attention. A rainbow flag pin. shit. cute gay nerd.
"excuse me. may I please have a package of French fries and a strawberry milkshake?" his voice was crisp and clear.
"I-Uh-Sure. It will be right up," I stuttered. my face was growing redder by the second as the boy turned and sat down at a table. it only took a couple minutes to make his order, then I went to his table with the food in my hands and placed it next to him.
"thank you."
"I like your pins on your bag." I blurted out.
"thank you." his voice and face were emotionless. I nodded stiffly then walked back to to the counter. AHHH!!! I hated my self. I totally mad a fool of my self infront on that cure nerd. then I felt a urge of hippieness that wasn't mine. Probably of my soulmates. I spent the next 10 minutes watching the guy eat. He finished his food quickly then took out some flash cards and started quizzing himself on something. so he was a student. I wondered where he went to school. he couldn't have been any more than a year older then my self. suddenly he stood up and threw out his cup and packet. then he came over to me and handed me $20. I started counting out the change but he stopped me.
"no. keep it." then he left.
