Chapter 5
1996-1998
Do you count death as a pet? Dementors, Nagini, Followers of the dark lord. When I saw how people treated pets that’s how I saw the relationship between them and my father. His followers were his pets. I didn’t know if I were a pet because I didn’t feel as though I followed him. What I felt was that I was obligated to. I had a duty to him. I’m still trying to work out what I was. I was no Death Eater and he knew it, yet I did not fight for the others either.
1998-2004
This period I call my “finding myself period” it was filled with work. It was as though I had been turned into a Slytherin and was returning to my rightful, happy, Gryffindor self. That’s the only way I can explain it.
