Chapter 2
Summer - 1990
With my uncle as Potions master you can imagine that he did not stop working, his location just changed. When I was able to go to Hogwarts he finally decided that I should take more responsibility over the holidays. I had already been aloud by Professor Sprout to take saplings (young trees) home with me and told to sing, talk and stroke them on a regular basis but now in 1990 I was allowed my first real live animal.
It wasn’t the most interesting of animals but it taught me a very good lesson. I took a Flobberworm. It is classed as boring by the ministry but I think useful is more like it. We went back to London. With several small slug-like creatures and feeding instructions of “lettuce, but not always the same one, makes them queezy” that was Hagrid’s advice.
Why did I have them? Well, because I was going to be studying them in my first year and apparently every year, during the summer, Hagrid, my uncle and Professor Sprout end up getting tons of ingredients for many Potions that they will be making over the coming months. FLOBBERWORM MUCUS he told me was one of the most used ingredients and now was as good a time as any to start learning. I was able to watch the Flobberworms carefully and even took them with us when we went to Cokeworth to get the Mooncalf dung. It doesn’t sound very exciting but when you are 11 and put in charge of something for the first time, I felt brilliant. I felt like he really trusted me.
