The Smart Squad (In Progress)
written by ☆kiola-the-iola☆
Cawley Harton, Jaffrey Dunson, and Raichelle Choi were born on Christmas morning. The precise times were December 25, 2003, 3:57, 3:59, and 4:01 AM. The nurses say that all three babies did not cry; instead, they stared up at all the medical staff peacefully. Everyone sensed that the babies would be connected somehow, and soon, they would all know why. A story about three teens who were more than just, well, teens. They were spies.

Chapter 1
Lee kept his eyes focused on the slick, rainy terrain ahead, his knuckles white as he clenched the steering wheel. Jaff sat in the passenger's seat, the GPS in his hand. He directed Lee onto a dirt road leading to the dilapidated barnhouse where they would have to stay the night. Neither boy paid any attention to the form laying in the back. This form happened to be a girl that was quite beautiful. Her name was Rai. She was the last member of the genius team that the government had decided upon. Lee and Jaff knew that she was exhausted from their latest mission, and so they let her sleep.
Most fifteen year old boys would be afraid of getting fined by the government for driving, but that fear was nonexistent in Lee; working for the government had its perks. As the old station wagon trundled down the lane, Jaff started organizing their supplies and Rai slowly drifted back into consciousness. Lee pulled into a good place near the farmhouse and parked the car expertly. After gathering their necessities, the trio rushed into their shelter for the night.
Now, I am sure that at this point, you are slightly confused, so let me explain a few things. First, you must know that Lee, Jaff, and Rai are a group of teenagers that the government hand-selected from birth to help them solve problems that only these children could. Lee, Jaff, and Rai call themselves 'The Smart Squad', named after the government's nickname for them; 'The Smart-Alecks'. You see, Lee, Jaff, and Rai were exceptional at what the government had them doing, and they made an excellent team. You must understand that, or else much of this story will be of no interest to you. Secondly, I realize that you may want to know what these three geniuses look like.
Lee is a tall, thin boy of fifteen years. He has the most gorgeous blue eyes and wheat blond hair. He is easily the leader of the group, and the others respect him, for he is a kind, benevolent boy, except on very few occasions when his other side takes over; the angry side. Jaff and Rai know not to spark that side. His reputation is one he deserves, for he values every life. There also might be a chance that Lee and Rai are a thing, but you’ll have to keep reading to see for yourself.
Jaff is also fifteen, but instead of being tall and thin, he is of average height and weight. His brown hair always stands perfectly, every hair in place, and his gray eyes show wisdom beyond his years. He is the smartest and wisest of all three teens. At first glance, he seems prideful and distant, but once you get to know him, you find that he is not a spoiled rich boy, but a caring and trusting friend.
Now we come to Rai. She is a combination of both Lee and Jaff, and usually plays the most important part of every mission. Her jet black hair falls down to her shoulder blades, a curtain of shiny ebony. She has beautiful brown eyes and tan skin. She is also tall and thin, and her smile lights up whatever room she's in. Rai is a daring and brave girl with a big imagination that manages to get her out of terrible situations at just the right moment. She is probably one of the kindest people on Planet Earth, and her love and care help her gain the trust of anyone. Whenever she is on a mission, she usually plays the unsuspecting teenage girl, but in reality, she is a butt-kicking government agent, just like Lee and Jaff. Now, back to our story.
The farmhouse was definitely old, but it was well furnished. It consisted of four beautiful if not old-fashioned rooms; a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms. Rai grabbed her bag and chucked it into the smaller bedroom, then went into the kitchen to start making the group dinner. Jaff sat down in the living room to call the government sector they worked for. He knew that he had to get the next mission’s plan from their superiors. Lee put his and Jaff’s stuff in the bigger bedroom and then went into the living room to help Jaff. The boys sat together, listening to the agents’ plans until Rai called,
“The soup’s ready! Come and get it before I eat it all, you slowpokes!” Rai tried to sound harsh, but really, she was teasing them. First of all, she definitely could not eat all of the soup, and secondly, she was too kind to actually be mean. Lee and Jaff laughed as they gathered up their things and walked into the kitchen. Rai had dished out three servings into chipped bowls. Steam curled off the surface of all three bowls, and a delightful aroma filled the air.
“There’s nothing like a warm bowl of Rai’s minestrone to brighten your evening,” Lee said with a contented smile.
“Definitely,” Jaff agreed. “This is stellar!”
“Aw, shucks,” Rai said with a grin. She slugged Lee in the arm. “You’re too kind.” Lee laughed and slipped an arm around her shoulders. You may think that Jaff would feel left out because his two best friends were dating, but he didn’t. He felt completely fine with it. The teens finished their soup and all traveled into the living room. Lee slouched onto one chair and Rai perched on the armrest, one of Lee’s arms wrapped around her waist so she wouldn’t fall, while Jaff collapsed into the other chair. He whipped out his laptop, saying,
“We have a report for our next assignment. Here it is.” They all clustered around the computer as Jaff read the report aloud. It said,
Place: Whitewall Academy, Larkspur, Colorado
Problem: A male student, Aydeen-Jay McLaughlin, who is an assistant to your squad is making trouble at his assignment. The school has a strict policy of no PDA, but he is not listening. Many girls have reported this after they have come to their senses, but the principal has found no evidence and will not let us take control of the situation.
Your Aim: Get evidence to prove his violations. Bring this to the principal and get the boy into our hands.
Solution: You are all enrolled in this academy. You start tomorrow. Yes, in the middle of the week, but that can’t be helped. Besides, Wednesday is a great day for fresh starts. Okay, this is getting off track. Rai, I think you know what you have to do. Yes, you guessed right. Make him fall in love with you. Lee and Jaff will get video evidence. Though you’ll probably get expelled as well, Rai, you know these situations never last long. We’ll erase the mark on your record if you ever decide to quit government business. Rai, here is a link to a website that we made. It has several girls’ accounts of Aydeen on it, so you’ll know what to expect.
https//:www.govaccounts.org/aydeencase
Remember, he’s not a dangerous guy. The only problem is that he won’t listen to the strict no-dating policies. You all aren’t in any danger. Good luck! We are cheering you on.
Rai quickly looked at some of the accounts. With a groan, she shut the computer.
“I don’t want to act like a ditzy airhead again just so the government can get their little agent back!” she sighed and laid down across Lee’s lap. She resigned herself with a sigh, “but I’ll do it if I have to.” Lee stroked her hair.
"Just remember that this is helping the people who give us clothes to wear and food to eat. Without them, we’d be starving in the streets,” Jaff said.
“I just wish that there was some other way than having me pretend to date another stupid-”
“Don’t start ranting!” Lee interrupted. “We know how you feel, but maybe Aydeen is different on the inside. Okay, I know it’s highly improbable, but Rai, you are strong enough to do this. You don’t need to worry.”
Rai relaxed. She decided to let go of her worries and take the boys’ comfort to heart. After reviewing the plan one more time, they all headed to bed. They were all three of them nervous for what the next day would bring.
