Chapter 2

Lucius knew they were in
the wrong part immediately; they had aimed for a cabin in the country
that Richie stayed at once, but there were no marshlands near that
cabin. Dark had fallen fully now and they had no idea where they
were.

“Lumos!” muttered
Lucius, moving his wand in a backwards loop. The other two did this
as well, and a soft yellow light appeared at the ends of their wands,
illumination the area.

“Who lost focus?”
Margie complained.

“I did,” Richie
replied. “I thought at the last minute that I had to use the loo
again. I don't know why that brought us here, though.”

“Maybe because it smells
like a loo,” Margie muttered.

“Quiet,” snapped
Lucius. “I heard something. There might be Imps around. Keep your
eyes peeled.”

They all raised their
wands higher and Lucius saw a small movement in the corner of his
eye. He turned quickly and tried to follow the movement, but he lost
it.

“Let's just disapparate
again. I'll focus now.”

As he spoke, Margie
yelled, “Stupefy!” and a red light shot out of her wand through a
bush. She splashed her way over there and after searching for a
moment, she lifted a small brown figure into the air.

“You were right, Lucius.
An Imp. Let's get out of here before more come and we get lost.”

“Right. Drop it and come
here.”

She dropped the Imp into
the bush again and returned to the boys, and took their hands.
“Focus!” She said irritably, looking at Richie. He rolled his
eyes and they all turned, this time appearing in the cabin. Margie
used her wand to siphon the water and mud off of their robes and they
all settled down for bed.

They didn't spend a lot of
time in Ireland or Scotland; they wandered around for a few days and
visited the Lochness Monster. Their next destination was Berlin,
Germany, but they decided to appear in Southern Germany and make
their way up from there. They apparated to Nuremberg and decided to
stay in a small wizarding inn down there.

Before bed, they had
dinner in the small restaurant below the rooms. A few tables away,
they saw a man near their age with a bundle of sticks in front of
him, muttering to himself. He looked very troubled and was covered
with scratches. Margie went over to him and spoke to him in German.
She came back and told them that he was a wandmaker's apprentice and
he was supposed to gather wood from a few different kinds of trees,
but he kept getting attacked by Bowtruckles. He was able to collect a
few twigs but it wasn't nearly enough.

“I sort of volunteered
us to go help him tomorrow,” said Margie. “He looks nice. I want
to help him.”

“You just fancy him,”
sneered Richie. Margie glared at him and finished her soup and bread.

Early the next morning
they joined the man, whose name was Adolf, in the dining area again.
He kept thanking them, and they kept reassuring him that it was
alright; at least, Margie did, as she was the only one who spoke
fluent German. He led them out and grabbed their hands, apparating
them to the forest in which the wand trees were.

Through Margie, Adolf told
them that the entire forest was full of magical trees and that they
need to collect wood from every type. He already had Cherry, but he
needed Elm, Elder, Holly and Oak. He gave them each a small bag full
of wood lice to distract the Bowtruckles in the trees.

Lucius saw the Bowtruckles
in the first Oak tree he found. They looked like a bundle of sticks,
but had long, sharp fingers that he knew had caused the scratches on
Adolf's face. He cleared a space on the forest floor and poured a
small amount of wood lice where he cleared it. After a moment,
Bowtruckles began flying down from the surrounding trees and helping
themselves to the lice. Lucius began collecting twigs from below the
trees, moving slowly so as not to alert the creatures to what he was
doing. He knew that if they noticed him and attacked, his only choice
would be to run; no magic would work on them.

They continued to work
until Adolf made a loud noise and alerted the Bowtruckles to their
activity. They were suddenly swarmed by them, being scratched and
kicked. Lucius pulled them all toward himself and, when he was sure
they were all holding hands, turned and disapparated back to the
small inn. They returned to the dining area, clutching their bags
full of sticks, and Margie began applying Essence of Dittany to their
wounds. After Adolf sorted through the sticks, he concluded that he
had enough sticks to appease his master and hugged them all tightly,
thanking them in rapid German.

They decided to travel
Germany for a full month, looking at all of the old camps that the
Muggle Nazi army used to imprison the Jews and discussed how similar
Adolf Hitler was to Lord Voldemort. They only slept in the inn one
night; the rest of the time they stayed in a tent in various woods,
and cast muggle repelling spells around them.

They decided to spend
October in Transylvania, staying in the same castle that the original
Dracula stayed in, thinking this the best place to spend Halloween.
They hopped around France throughout November and made the decision
to travel to Russia for December, and hop back to England for
Christmas. They bundled up in multiple layers, knowing it would be
freezing, and appeared behind a farm in the Russian country.
