Aquariana's Sacrifice

Chapter 1

The poor townspeople of Orbyria were stricken with a scorching summer that brought upon the worst drought the town had ever experienced. Their river dried up and their crops died. They were running low on drinking water and just about out of food. The townspeople were in need of a miracle. One night, a young witch named Aquariana knelt before a beautiful old statue of the ancient water goddess Hydra. Her grandmother had given it to her as a gift for her thirteenth birthday. She used to tell her a story about a town not very far from there being stricken with a horrible drought, and an old medicine woman called upon Hydra to relieve them of their struggles. Aquariana started to pray. Suddenly, the earth outside was greeted with a drink. It started to rain, it started to pour, Aquariana couldn't believe her eyes! She went outside and noticed right away that the rain was no ordinary rain. There was a giant chalice shaped cloud up in the sky, and water was continuously pouring from it. It was Hydra, the ancient water goddess! The rain started coming down harder, the river was filling rapidly. The rest of the townspeople joined Aquariana in the street and started to cheer! There was one man in particular who was not cheering along with the rest. He had always known Aquariana was a witch and wanted her dead! When he saw the chalice and knew it was magic, he took a blade from his belt and stabbed Aquariana 3 times in her back. The townspeople rushed over and restrained the man, but it was too late. Aquariana was laying in the middle of the street rapidly bleeding out onto the now puddle ridden ground. The endless flow of water had an end after all, and the chalice evaporated. Hydra then materialized before Aquariana's lifeless body. She knelt beside her, and placed her hand over Aquariana's heart and pulled her spirit out of her body. Stunned, the crowd moved back. Hydra took Aquariana's spirit up into the sky and made her the constellation Aquarius, so that nobody in the town of Orbyria will ever forget the sacrifice she made to save them.
