Lesson Two: Tools of the Trade Study Guide
Chapter 3
A newspaper called Herbology Today have said that over thirty thousand witches and wizards had mishaps that could've been prevented. Sixty-one percent of these accidents were due to the forgetfulness of using basic equipment. If you need a cure for poisons, the Essence of Dittany & the Antidote to Common Poisons are used.

Dragon dung is used as soil & works because of the dragons' acid in their stomach. It is connected to how they are able to breathe fire. Dragon dung has no smell because dragons use the stench for their fire breathe. Mooncalf dung is used as a softer soil & is used for planting delicate plants. If the soil has no vitamins or minerals, this won't be strong enough to get the plant to survive. Centaur tears can bring dead plants back to life, but salt water plants don't like centaur tears. With Albus Dumbledore & Rubeus Hagrid, centaurs are willing to give their tears away only if their tears are used for the caring of plants.
Types of Cauldrons
Pewter cauldrons are vulnerable to melting & exploding due to their low melting point. Pewters doesn't react or mix. If any plants happen to be stuck in brass cauldrons, it will react with the cauldron, will release a fire that is green-blue in color, & will emit zinc in the air. Copper cauldrons has the highest melting point & can resist burning plants and reactive plants. Silver cauldrons can use more heat than brass cauldrons. If using reactive plants, your cauldron may explode. Gold cauldrons resist acids that are emitted from plants, making it perfect for all plants. Gold cauldrons' melting point is not very high.

⊱ The dragons' acids break down the gas substances to their natural condition; which is helpful in herbology.
⊱ Centaurs are known as beasts who are just as intelligent as humans & have a knack for herbology & astrology.
⊱ If you aren't cautious with reactive plants when using Pewter cauldrons, the cauldrons' edges will wear down & create small pieces at the bottom of the potion.
⊱ With Pyrite cauldrons, its melting point is not an issue, but it reacts with plants, water, & heat; making the cauldron impossible to use for potions.
