Lesson Six: Gargoyles & Hags Study Guide
Chapter 7
Gargoyles
Gargoyles were created to protect structures from being destroyed by the rain. Grotesques are just for decoration, but it is believed that Gargoyles scared away evil spirits from buildings such as older churches. In the wizarding world, witches & wizards will put a Gargoyle at the front door with a password. The Gargoyle will only let you & others who have the password through. The person who charmed the Gargoyle does not need to say a password.
Hags
Hags are ugly living creatures that are human-like with only four toes. They can make potions, but that's all. Hags don't have a classification due to them being as beings. Hags love to eat children & raw liver. Annis Black is well known for a letter she wrote to The Daily Prophet. She made a complaint saying that they shouldn't depict hags as cannibal eating barbarians. Cordelia Misericordia lived from 1298-1401 & was the elected person on the Wizard's Council for all hags.
Fun Facts
