I put my 9 year old son to bed and sat with relief on my bed. Charlie, my husband sat next to me shuffling his feet and waiting in anticipation of what I might say. I could tell. He ran his fingers through his hair not once, not twice but three times and then scratched at his beard. I was waiting for the explosion.

“You’ve GOT to TELL mE!!!” he finally said. “Which version didn’t we get married in? Who did you marry instead? WHAT HAPPENED???”

I was taken aback by his sudden remarks. Taken aback but laughing at the same time.

“What do you expect me to say?” I was sort of probing by this time. I wanted to know what he thought I would have done in different situations. Not the other way around.

“Ok. Well I reckon if they were trying to save Cedric then you must have been with him, right? That was the plan wasn’t it? I mean before he died and you turned to the faithful Weasleys.”

“yes… but who’s to say that would turn out?”

“Interesting…” he started pacing the floor. Somehow my dragonologist had turned detective.

“So, there must at least one scenario where you guys are together…hmm, let’s go with a potential two, one where you are happily married and one where disaster has taken over and you are both terribly unhappy. Then I foresee another where he dies and you are incredibly happy with a very handsome redheaded stranger.” By this point he became more like professor Trelawney. Waving his hands around. And grinning.

I couldn’t help it I was in a fit of laughter on the bed. “Actually, you are not too far off.”
