Interview With A Portrait
This was actually initially a school assignment that I had been reticent about completing. I felt incredibly awkward about interviewing a school portrait and was confused about the point of the exercise. I was incredibly surprised at how informative and interesting it was to speak with someone with so much experience, both in life and after. Portraits are incredibly interesting, particularly those at Hogwarts, and I felt that sharing would be the only thing to do. I also intend to collect other people's interviews if they are willing to include in this book. (Note: Still accepting submissions! Owl me!)

Helga Hufflepuff: An Interview By Nadia Washington
Chapter 4
Hello, I have been asked to interview one portrait from school as a class assignment, do you have a few minutes that I may share with you and ask some questions?
Of course! I would be honored.
1) Thanks, now for the record what is your name?
I am Helga Hufflepuff.
2) What is like being one of the founders of Hogwarts?”
I am proud and very grateful to be among the group of the first wizards and witches to start a school. It was a tough task getting together powerful witches and wizards to agree on Hogwarts, but I believe we did the right thing. Hogwarts is a great place for young wizards and witches to be taught by skilled witches and wizards, learn in a safe environment, and grow into their magical abilities.
3) Why weren’t you as selective with the students sorted into Hufflepuff House as the other founders?
I believe any student shouldn’t be taken specifically because of certain qualities or family background. I treated all the students, whether they were in my House or not, fairly. I love bringing wizards and witches of different backgrounds together and get them to work together as a unit. People always say I have the best charming wit, which is why I think I got them to work together peacefully, but that’s my little secret.
4) If you don’t mind, how old are you?
I was born in the 10th century, so very old.
5) What is your favorite color?
Oh I don’t have just one. I love the colors yellow and black. That is why I choose those colors to represent my House.
6) Who was your best friend at Hogwarts?
I was very close with Rowena Ravenclaw. Since we founded Hogwarts together it was great having another witch around sharing the same experiences, especially being surrounded by all these powerful wizards.
7) What was your best charm?
I was particular great at food charms.
8) What is your favorite pastime at Hogwarts?
My best ability was my excellent cooking skill. I love creating new recipes, and I was the best cook around. Some of my feasts still go on in Hogwarts.
9) Tell me a story.
I can remember when I saw a wizard, who will not be named, mistreating an elf very badly. The things he was calling the elf while hitting it too, still makes me shiver. No being, human or creature should ever be treated as such. Now elves for many other witches and wizards are beastly creatures, but I don’t see it. That is why I decided to take elves and give them a safe place to stay and work in the kitchen at Hogwarts. I wanted to make sure elves had rights, which is why I promoted the all house elf rights. When no one will speak up for creatures being mistreated, I felt the need to do what I can to change it.
10) Why is that goblet important to you?
This goblet is a family heirloom.
11) Is there magic in that goblet?
Oh yes, I have bestowed some magic powers on this cup, but that shall forever be my little secret passed on to my descendents.
12) What characteristics do you think make a great wizard or witch?
As long as you are loyal, fair, compassionate, and hard-working, you will not only be a great wizard or witch, but a great person.
Thank you so much for your time. And I love you cakes by the way, always so great tasting.
You are welcome. Anytime you want, I will be around, probably near the kitchen.
