Ravenclaw Pride... Get to Know the Most Underrated House
written by Elisabeth Rose
All houses are amazing and equally important in contributing to what makes Hogwarts so incredible. However, as a Ravenclaw, I have noticed a lack of representation and acknowledgement towards my house. If you want to learn more about this incredible group of witches and wizards, or you don't understand what I mean, perhaps you even disagree, I encourage you to keep reading!

Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff
Chapter 4
We know that Gryffindor and Slytherin are the most well known houses in the Harry Potter fandom. This is due to the fact that all of the main characters (protagonists) are in Gryffindor, and all of main characters (antagonists) are in Slytherin. I think it is a commonly known fact that Gryffindor is a very popular house; the Golden Trio belonged to this house, and it has the most representation among all of the Hogwarts houses. Slytherin is known as an "evil house", something that has time and time again been proven to be false. Because of all the original misconceptions that surrounded this house, Slytherin has taken a large role in informing people of the false impressions gained from the Harry Potter series. This has led to Slytherin recovering from their stereotype (mostly), making the house stronger than ever with witches and wizards eager to prove Slytherin's worth.
This leaves only two houses: Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Before I go any further, I want to remind any readers that this chapter is not to compare which house is better. And I also know that especially among the mentioned houses, this will be a controversial subject. To organize my argument, I have three main reasons why I think that Ravenclaw deserves more representation and is the most underrated house.
Acknowledgment
To start us off, I will provide a quote from the official Wizarding World website: "In the past, J.K. Rowling has said, ‘In many, many ways, Hufflepuff is my favorite house.’" The author and creator of our world has a favorite house. And no, it is not the most well known. It is not Slytherin either (no surprise there, JK didn't exactly set up Slytherins for success out in the world). In fact, it is Hufflepuff. Let me be clear; this is not a bad thing. I love Hufflepuffs just as much as the next witch. However, this only allows for Ravenclaws to fall farther back into the shadows. Hufflepuff is known for being the underdog. And so people make an effort to make that house known. Meanwhile, Ravenclaw slowly blends more and more into the background.
Representation
I understand that this section might come as a surprise to some. Luna Lovegood is a very well-known character, and she is a Ravenclaw. However, as much as I love Luna, I do wish that there were more canon characters in my house. Not everyone will identify with Luna, and Ravenclaws are perhaps the most diverse set of students. Not many people love Cho Chang, and I’m not sure a single wizard likes Quirrel or Lockhart. I do really like Professor Flitwick's character, however, I don't believe that he was written to his full potential.
Now, Hufflepuff not only has Cedric Diggory, but they also have an entire series about one of them; Newt Scamander. I understand that Fantastic Beasts is not anywhere near as loved or well-known as the original Harry Potter series, but there is still a movie series starring a Hufflepuff.
Struggles
And finally, no one ever remembers Ravenclaw’s mascot and colors. Even the movies did not include our true colors. Because of that, many people forget that we are blue and BRONZE, not silver. It is extremely hard to find a single piece of Ravenclaw clothing that’s the correct colors. Additionally, many people guess that our mascot is a raven, rather than an eagle.
