Transformation is the most familiar type out of the four branches of transfiguration & has the qualities of Dark magic. There are three sub-branches of Transformation. They are Trans-species transformations, switching, & human transfiguration. These sub-branches were invented in 1651. General transformation is not added, but some say it should be. General transformations are categories that form lifeless to lifeless, lifeless to life, life to lifeless, & life to life transformations.

Animagi can only transform into one animal & its features can be linked to a human attribute. Metamorphmagi can alter anything in their features like gender, age, hair color, or eye color. Nymphadora Tonks is an example of this because she can change her facial attributes. Werewolves can't keep human thoughts & can strike at any human. Damocles created a potion called Wolfsbane to enable the person to keep their human thoughts while still turning.

One theory of the vanishment branch is that an item is considered non-existent. The more complicated the item is, the difficult it is for the item to disappear. When you conjure, you envision all of the features of an item & objects that are conjured can't last. Anything you want to conjure must first be already in the world. Untransfiguration is a sequence of spells that let you retract past transfigurations. Objects that are created vanishes overtime.
