Enchanted Details #1: Dumbledore’s interest in Divination

Hello, readers! I’m creating this new weekly thing called Enchanted Details! It’s going to be an article per week where I say a Harry Potter detail that could have changed the whole plot drastically. If you have any ideas of an enchanted detail I could do, please feel free to owl me! Today’s theme is Dumbledore’s interest in Divination, let’s start!

Dumbledore never had Divination in Hogwarts. When he became Headmaster he thought it would be a good idea to incorporate it in the Hogwarts classes. Maybe students would have a great interest in it. So, he started interviewing famous seers.

At first he thought that it was just a bunch of rubbish, but then he interviewed Sybill Trelawney. Her grandmother had been a famous seer, and it was said that it passed grandparent to grandchild. Dumbledore had completely lost interest in Divination, but then Trelawney said the Prophecy in her interview.

He couldn’t just let her go like that, when that Prophecy would define the future, so he hired her for Divination teacher at Hogwarts.

If Dumbledore hadn’t had any interest in seeing if Divination could be a class he would have never met Trelawney, and he wouldn’t have heard the Prophecy. If he hadn’t heard the Prophecy that would have changed a lot in dear Harry Potter’s life. For starters Dumbledore wouldn’t have known that Harry was the hidden Horcrux.

If Dumbledore hadn’t known about the Prophecy, maybe Snape wouldn’t have heard it either, and he wouldn’t have told Voldemort. If he hadn’t told Voldemort there would have been no known “The Boy Who Lived”. Harry’s parents wouldn’t have been killed, and Harry wouldn’t have been raised by the Dursleys! He wouldn’t have been famous, or even connected to Voldemort, he simply would have been ordinary Harry Potter. Can you believe that?!

And that’s just the big plot changes, think about the small plot changes, or medium plot changes.

Harry would have never heard about the Grim. He maybe would have never met Sirius, because he wasn’t there when Professor Trelawney said another Prophecy about Pettigrew. It certainly would have changed a lot! If you’d like this article please post what you liked about it in my wall, or in the HDN readers group.
