Chapter 5
James Potter was furious. He hated it. It would be so much easier if he could hate Lily Evans.
But he couldn't hate her. No matter how hard he tried. And it made absolutely no sense.
She hated him. She yelled at him. Shouted insults at him. And just now, blamed him for something he didn't do. But no matter how hard he tried, James couldn't hate Lily Evans. Instead, he loved her.
It was during the feast that James and Lily agreed on something. The Slytherins were up to something.
Lily had tried not to look at James or Snape. She was doing a good job of it too. She was sitting with her best-friend Alice Fortescue, and her two other friends Marlene McKinnon and Mary MacDonald.
"Yeah so me and him hooked up during the last week of summer. He's so amazing," Mary sighed.
"Mary face it, you'll be over him in another week," Marlene laughed.
Mary was talking about her most recent boyfriend. He was a seventh year Ravenclaw named Sebastian Cunning.
"You're right," Mary admitted. "But I like to enjoy it while it lasts."
"I swear you're going to be dating Reginald Cattermole next," Alice smiled.
"Hey," Lily cut in. "There is nothing wrong with Reginald Cattermole."
"Is our little Lily in love?" Mary teased.
"No way. And besides I've never had a wizard boyfriend. Potter makes sure of that."
"I don't see why you don't go out with him Lily," Mary said.
"Because he's a filth little toerag who cares about no one but himself."
"I mean she's just so insufferable and bossy. I mean how does anyone manage to say in the same room as her for more than five seconds," James said.
"Prongs what's wrong with you? You would kill to be alone in a room with Lily Evans for more than five seconds if you get my drift," Sirius grinned.
"Shut up Padfoot," James said.
"Just stating the facts mate," Sirius shrugged.
"The facts aren't helping," Remus said.
"Well I say Lily Evans isn't worth it," Peter said.
"Exactly Wormy! Ever wonder why you never had a girlfriend? Cause apparently no girl is worth it," Sirius shook his head.
"One girl is worth it," Peter said giving a meaningful look at James.
"For the last time Wormy. I'm not going to go out with bloody Vivian. I mean she's nice and all but she's not my type."
"Not your type?!"
"I agree with Moony surprisingly. She is your type. She likes Quidditch and-"
James cut him off by standing up abruptly. Snape, Mulciber, and Avery had just left the Great Hall in a hurry. Lily seemed to notice as well because she stood up too.
"Um I gotta go. Bathroom," James said and he rushed off following the three Slytherins.
