The First Time
Chapter 3
The Marauders were now all in their third year by then. The first Hogsmeade weekend was coming up and James wanted to go with Lily Evans. The Marauders could be found in their dormitory plotting ways to get Lily to go out with James. They didn't know then, but they would be doing the same thing many times after that.
"You know, I have a brilliant idea. How about, you just be nice to her," Remus suggested, as he stood at the foot of James' bed, slightly annoyed with the idiotic ideas his friends were coming up with.
"Oh, no, Remus," Sirius whined, and he shook his friend by the shoulders. "What's the fun in that? Have I taught you nothing in all those years I've been your friend."
"Ah shut up Sirius, you can't corrupt dear old Remus. He's the glue that holds us together," James told his friend, as he lied on his back, staring up at the ceiling. "And besides Remus, whenever I try to be nice to her she won't have it, she thinks there's an ulterior motive or something. She is so complicated, it gets a bit annoying."
"Exactly James. She's complicated. Vivian isn't complicated. She made it so clear she wants to go out with you," Peter said.
"No Wormtail. Vivian's nuts. Lily's not. She may not be completely sane, cause honestly she doesn't like me, every girl likes me," Sirius said.
"No," James said and everyone roared with laughter.
The next day was Friday and Saturday was the Hogsmeade visit. Lily Evans and her friend Alice Fortescue were sitting in the Gryffindor Common Room working on their Charms essay. Alice was not one for homework on weekends so she asked Lily a question.
"James hasn't asked you to go to Hogsmeade with him yet?" Alice asked.
"No. I'm not going anyways," Lily said.
"Why not?" Alice asked.
"Because Severus is going with his Slytherin friends. Y'know, Mulciber and Avery," Lily shrugged.
"Lily your whole world doesn't revolve around Snape. You have other friends. Like the totally awesome, pretty, smart and cool girl sitting very close to you," Alice grinned.
"Really who? Oh right Mary. Mary is all of those," Lily laughed.
"Hey!"
"Er Evans."
Lily looked up to see James holding a single rose and biting his lip nervously.
"Potter." Lily greeted.
"I was just wondering if you'd like to go to Hogsmeade with me," James smiled.
"Oh James that's so sweet. Oh my gosh I don't know what to say... Wait yes I do. No," Lily rolled her eyes.
James glared at her and stormed away.
"Lily that was kind of mean," Alice frowned.
"Mean? Alice that's nothing. You should see him around Sev. He's horrible. That was not mean."
"But Lily Snape provokes James half the time! And you know James. He's just a big kid."
"Seriously Alice? You're siding with Potter?"
"No I'm not. Just be nicer next time."
"Never in a million years."
"Well? What did she say?" Remus sat up as James entered the room.
"What do you think she said?" James sighed.
"C'mon mate. She's just another bird. You'll get over her," Sirius patted his best friend's back.
"Lily Evans is not just another bird. And I will never be over her."
