Confrontations
Chapter 1
Eyes full of tears, Mara realised it was now or never. Now was the time, she'd have to decide. She could keep up a lie, keep getting broken, or she could remove herself from them forever and live happily away from them. It was an easy choice, right? But what if the people she had to remove herself from were her best friends? The two best friends she'd had for life? The ones she'd sworn with that they'd never be separated? What about then?
Breathing heavily, Mara left the classroom and chased after Lilac.
"Lilac!" she called.
"We have to talk," Lilac said. Mara was surprised to realise that Lilac seemed sad. The two girls walked out onto the school field.
"People have told me you've been saying stuff about me," Mara said, her courage had gone though, and her practiced words seemed feeble and questioning. Lilac caught on and used that to her advantage.
"Of course not!" Lilac said, outraged. "I would never say anything about you, you hear me? You're my best friend!"
Mara smiled, "And Hattie of course."
Lilac giggled slightly, "Of course."
Mara felt gleeful as her friendship had returned, she didn't realise then, she'd been sucked back into a lie.
Just for good measure, Mara decided it would still be wise to confront Hattie.
"Hattie, we've been-" yet again, Mara's courage failed her. She went for the cowards route. "People have said you've been saying stuff about me..."
"What? Who? You don't believe them do you?" Hattie demanded. Mara sort of shrugged. "Mara, I would NEVER do that to you, you and Lilac are my best friends."
Mara smiled, she must have been mistaken. She was just overthinking things as usual, clearly they were still friends, nothing had changed after all.
