Polyjuice Potion Recipe

Chapter 7

Polyjuice Potion Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

12 lacewings that have been stewed for 21 days
1-ounce raw Antimonio
4 leeches
16 scruples of Descurainia Sophia collected with a full moon
3 drachmas of Ammoniac Salt
2 powdered centunaida leaves
1 bit of powdered horn of Bicorn, extracted according to certain conditions of the moon
Saltpeter, Mercury, and Mars Rasps
Dry shredded skin of an African Tree Snake
Worm
A hair from the person you want to transform into

PROCESS:

Adding the saltpeter supplement to the cauldron of the potion will have a mercurial texture. Add leeches that have been stewed for 22 days and spread throughout the cauldron. Add all the remaining ingredients, except the bicornuate powder, which will be crushed and left to dry for 6 days. Then add it as well and let the potion rest for 3 days. When the potion is almost finished, dead remains of the snakeskin that the potion does not acquire will be scattered around the cauldron. These pieces will have to be removed and crushed until they become very small pieces. Then, strain through a sieve through the remains that have not been crushed well. Finally, you need something of the person you are going to transform into, usually hair. Before this last ingredient is added, the potion appears thick and mud-like, slowly bubbling. When that of the person to be transformed is added, the potion changes color.

EFFECTS:

The effects of a single dose lasts one hour but, however, the longer the dose the longer the effects last. You need to know that if a person dies under the effects of the potion, they will remain in the form of the person they had transformed into instead of returning to their original form.

The potion is tricky and can go wrong. For example, my friend Hermione brewed Polyjuice Potion in her second year, attempting to take the form of Millicent Bulstrode, but mistakenly took a cat hair from her robe. She partially transformed Hermione into a cat. Since the potion does not work to transform into an animal, Hermione's change did not unravel after an hour. She went to the infirmary and did not recover until after a few weeks, it was very unpleasant to see her like that... That is why I do not dare to try it yet, I do not want to end up in the infirmary turned into a hairball.
