Chapter 2
The wind was so cold up in the sky. Hagrid kept telling me
about Hogwarts, and Professor Dumbledore. The professor sounded nice. I
wasn't too keen on being with a bunch of strangers at a school that no
one knew about, but if I get to keep being a tiger whenever I wanted,
I'll live there. We flew over the ocean and he tells me that we're going
to England. I was very excited. I've always been suck in Northern
Canada and Western US. This was very exciting to leave all that behind
to go to England.
Hagrid drops down into a parking lot. We get off the motorcycle and he leads me to a narrow street.
"Here
we are." He says. I look at the shop he's looking at. 'Leaky Cauldron'.
It said on a sign. All the humans around us just walked right past, not
even glancing at the store. He opened the door and stepped inside. I
followed behind him.
"El'low Hagrid. The usual?" Asked the man behind the counter.
"Oh
no, I'm on official Hogwarts business. I have to bring Miss. Ebony back
home." He tells the man. He just looks over at me and smiles.
"Anything for you dear?" He asks.
"Um,
Sure." I look at the menu. Nothing on here made much sense. But then I
saw tea and coffee and told him I wanted a coffee with three sugar and
cream. I downed it once I got it in my hands. Hagrid led me to a door
and opened it. It lead to a small space outside. He took out a small
pink umbrella and tapped it's point on the brinks in the wall like a
code. The brings then moved and opened to an alley.
"Welcome to
Diagon Alley." Hagrid said. It was beautiful. Witches and Wizards were
everywhere, and other magical people too. We walked and I soon saw a pet
shop. There were owls, bats, snakes, rats, frogs, and bugs. They looked
so cute.
"Hagrid, can I get one?" I asked him.
"Well you need money first. Lets get you to Gringotts. "
"Whats Gringotts?"
"It's the Wizarding bank here. We need to get yur money so you can buy things."
"But I have money." I pulled out some Canadian and American bills.
"Those are useless here. Now, do you have your key on you?"
"You mean my house key?" I asked clueless.
"No, maybe a small gold key."
"Oh, I do." I pulled out the chain of my necklace from under my shirt and there hands the key I found in my backyard.
"That's
it. That is the key to your families vault." He said. I still wasn't
sure why Hagrid kept saying that. My family disowned me. My parents
didn't care about me, only my magic. Then there's the fact that I'm a
tiger.
Hagrid led me to Gringotts bank. We entered and I saw
goblins on tall stools counting odd looking money. We walked up to the
end where I guess the head goblin who ran this place was. Hagrid
cleared his throat.
"We're here to collect Miss Ebony's money." Hagrid said.
"Does Miss Ebony have her key?" Asked the goblin.
"Yes." I handed it to him. He looked at it longer then I expected and murmured to the goblin beside him. He handed back my key.
"Vault
1089." Said the goblin to another one. He led us to a roller coaster
type thing and we got in. We rode down into the ground. Deeper and
deeper. A lantern was our only light until we reached an underground
cave. I saw the numbers on the vaults as we passed them. We soon passed
900 and were into the thousands. We still kept going deeper into the
caves until the goblin stopped the cart.
"Off." Said the goblin.
Hagrid looked sick. I handed the goblin the key again and he held it in
one hand while he used the other to do some odd hand motions. Locks
clicked from inside the door. And soon it opened. I stepped inside and
was completely shocked.
Shelves full of antique looking
jewels and objects were everywhere. All the way up to the ceiling. Comfy
looking chairs were placed around a table full of gold coins. I grabbed
a bag off of one of the chairs and stuffed handfuls of coins inside.
And when I looked back, the coins restocked themselves. 'Awesome. I was
rich. Absolutely rich.' I looked around a bit. Hagrid didn't mind. But I
think the goblin did. I saw some jewellery up on a shelf and saw they
were made of tiger stone and quartz. Then I saw a black onyx necklace a
bit away and more and more jewellery. I was in heaven. It was all so
beautiful.
After Hagrid and I left Gringotts, he showed me
the way to Ollivanders Wand shop. He left while I entered the store with
my bag of coins.
"Hello?" I called. A sound of wheels moving made me turn as I saw an old man on a ladder come around a corner.
"Hello. Who are you?" He asked.
"My name is Ebony. I'm here for a wand. You must be Ollivander. It's nice to meet you sir." I said.
"It's
lovely to meet you as well Miss. Ebony." He moved around the corner and
started pulling out long boxes. He passed a few to me to try out. I
opened them to see wands. "Try them." He said. I flicked my wrist and
soon the shop started to quiver. "Nope." He snatched the box away. I
tried another four but they weren't working.
"Tell me Ebony. Do you have any special qualities I should know of?"He asked.
"I'm a tiger." I blurted out.
"That would explain your eyes." He said.
I looked in a mirror he gave me and saw my eyes were like they were when I transform. I wasn't sure why they were like that now.
"I
believe I know the right wand for you." He left to go into a back room.
And didn't come out for ten minutes. He brought back a shiny white box
that looked well preserved. No dust or dents. I opened the lid and there
was the wand.
"Twelve
inch, dark ebony with a dragon wing center. The handle is made of
tigers eye stone and the end of the wand is a clear quartz crystal for
protection."
"Its beautiful." I said. I flicked my wrist and made the
box levitate, which was my intention. "Thank you. How much for it?" I
asked him.
"It was made for you Ebony. It costs nothing but the smile
on your face and the hope that you will use the wands power for good."
"Mr. Ollivander, I promise not to use this wand for evil." I hugged him and left.
