Chapter 9: English Rose

Chapter 9

Name: Rosa

Alias: English Rose, Climbing Rose

This is a very diverse family of plants to cover. The particular version of the rose that we are covering, though, I associated with romance, beauty, and strength. Classified as a shrub, the rose bush grows to around 2-4 feet in diameter and height. Something to be careful of when caring for one is the thorns that act as it's natural defense.

Roses are used for a variety of different uses, magical and mundane. Their roots, petals, and stems can be used in various ways to treat eye problems. The oil you can make from them, when undiluted, can help heal physical injuries such as burns, bites, and cuts. Roses and their very essence are used for beauty potions and skin creams to help with moisturizing and cleaning your pores, so this is handy for acne (especially when mixed with witch hazel). Just ingesting this in a tea can improve digestion, help with emotional difficulties, and relax the body to relieve joint and muscle pain.

You have kidney problems, including kidney stones? No problem for roses, which are amazing for cleansing the body. You have the flu and your throat is painfully raw? Roses are the answer. They even contain vitamin c to boost the immune system (also prevents scurvy) and are antiviral and antibacterial. They're amazing as a antiseptic. Your cough isn't even a problem. Taking in roses by tea, tincture, or potion will also aid in treating headaches, insomnia, and fever. Even applying a rose-soaked cloth to your forehead will help you, and using that same cloth on swelling will work as an anti-inflammatory. This will even help with your bowel movements, rather it be diarrhea or constipation.

For women, this plant is especially helpful. When mixed with mother wort, roses will help regulate your menstrual flow, as this plant helps regulate blood thickness. Babies with colic can also be helped just by ingesting something with roses in it. Finally, in the most famous use of roses, they are a key ingredient in many love potions.

Growing Instructions:

pH Levels: 5.5-7.0

Water Level: High

Additional Notes: You must soak the roots in water twice a week during the hot weather, because rose bushes can dry out quickly. Dragon dung is recommended for fertilizer and centaur tears work great.
